이스빠노-루주(Luso)아메리카 관계사 속에서의 반다오리엔탈 독립 연구 = A Study on the Independence of the Banda Oriental in Relationships between Hispano-Luso Americas

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

‘The only Hispanic country liberated from Brazil’, ‘a province that had the most atypical, complicated, and prolonged process of independence in the Iberian America’, ‘A nation most analogous to what is called “Imagined communities”’, ‘An unusual region in which the Iberian Empires clashed directly’,and so on. There are various expressions to indicate the troubled history of the Banda Oriental.
In the early years of the 19th century, the Banda Oriental was a very dynamic and fluid space. The southern boundaries of Brazil were not yet determined; the Argentine as a state didn’t yet be contoured; and it was very difficult to predict that the Banda Oriental would be born as a independent nation; o even it was not strange to form a new country between contiguous regions; it was the very period of turbulence and uncertainty.
Moreover, the Banda Oriental was a zone in which the interests of two Iberian Empires clashed, and those relations were continued to their successors, Brazil and Argentina(o Las Provincias Unidas de la Plata), and conflicts and mediations repeated during the rest of 19th century.
In the historical research, the Banda Oriental contributes to the diversification of approaching methods by offering a specific example to the fundamental themes of independence and nation-state building, and awakens the necessity of the ‘History of Ibero-America’ overlooked until recently, that is the integrated historical studies of Hispano-Luso Americas(or Inter-Americas) including Spain-Portugal.
This paper is a modest attempt to restore the integrated perspective of Ibero-America, and would analyze the independent process of the Banda Oriental within the relations of Ibero-Luso Americas.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

‘브라질에서 독립한 스페인어권 국가’, ‘이베로아메리카에서 가장 길고 복잡하며, 비전형적인 독립과정을 지닌 지역’, 이른바 ‘상상의 공동체에 가장 유사한 국가’, ‘이베리아 양 제국의 이익이 직접적으로 충돌한 흔치 않은 지역’ 등 반다오리엔탈의 굴곡진 역사를 표현하는 수식어는 매우 다양하다. 19세기 초반의 반다오리엔탈은 매우 역동적이면서 유동적인 시공간이었다. 인접한 브라질의 남쪽 경계도 불안정하였고, 아르헨티나라는 국가도 아직 형체를 드러내기 전이었으며, 반다오리엔탈이 독립국으로 탄생할 수 있을지도 예측하기 어려운 시기였다. 혹은 인접한 여러 지방들이 서로 단합하여 하나의 새로운 국가를 형성해도 전혀 이상하지 않은 그야말로 혼돈과 불확실성의 시공간이었다. 더욱이 반다오리엔탈은 예로부터 이베리아 두 제국, 스페인과 포르투갈의 이해가 충돌한 지역이며, 그 관계는 브라질과 아르헨티나(라플라타 연합주)로 이어져 19세기 내내 갈등과 조정을 되풀이한 곳이기도 하다. 역사연구에서 반다오리엔탈은 라틴아메리카 독립과 국민국가 형성이라는 중요한 주제에 특수한 일례를 제공함으로써 접근 방식의 다양화에 기여하였고, 그동안 간과되었던 이베로아메리카사, 즉 이스빠노-브라질(루주아메리카), 스페인-포르투갈의 통합적 역사연구의 필요성을 일깨웠다. 본 논문은 이베로아메라카 통합적 시각의 정립을 위한 하나의 시론(試論)으로서 이베로-루주아메리카의 관계 속에서 반다오리엔탈(우루과이)의 독립과정을 분석하는데 그 목적을 둔다.
