韓國女性의 衣服選擇要因과 價値觀과의 相關性에 對한 硏究 : 서울市內 女性을 中心으로 = A Study on the Relationship between Factors of Clothing Selection and Values of Korean Women

Mankind's purpose in wearing clothes is not only to protect the body and to decorate the individual, but also to demonstrate the individual's social status and to make oneself attractive to obtain psychological satisfaction.
Rapid changes in the modern world and relentless materialistic cultural advances stimulate modern people's clothing desires and even results in clothing diversification and specification. This tendency directly affects fashion styles and patterns.
The modern fashion styles are also characterized by a special emphasis on the practicality of clothes, along with flexibility and diversity. Meantime, mass production and mass, consumption, in line with the continuing growth of industrial society, has a big impact on values concerning clothes. So values influence all the activities of human beings, and fashion is one of the ways to express one's personal life style. In addition, the value of human life and of all human activities proves to be greatly influenced by the social circumstances in which people live.
In this treatise, questionnaires have been used to search for the general values of human life and to measure these values from different perspectives. Religious values seem most important, accompanied by social, economic, political, aesthetic, and theoretical values in that order.
Obviously, life values in general and clothes selective factors turn out to be affected by the living conditions, age, educational background, monthly pay, marital status, respectively. As regards Korean women's selection of clothes, individuality is the most important of the selection of clothes, individuality is the most important of the selection factors, followed by economic resources, practicality, modesty, with conformity in last place.
The interrelationship between values and clothes selective factors is as follows:
Female with high theorotical values is more interested in clothes with modesty features and female with high economical values is interested in practicality, modesty and economy of clothes.
And female with high aesthetic values, in choosing clothes, showed interest in expressing individuality and female with high social value showed much importance to practicality, economy, and modesty. Female with high political value, in choosing clothes, showed much importance to expressing individuality, practicality and modesty of clothes. And lastly female with high religious value showed interest in modesty of clothes. As seen in the above interrelationship between the values and clothes selection factors have the meaningful interrelation for each of living conditions such as marital status, age, educational background, and monthly pay.
After describing my research work which examines the interrelationship between the values and the clothing selection models, I close this by sincerely hoping that this will be of some assistance to the clothing world and to those who are interested in further study and research toward the goal of further development of the clothing world in the days ahead.
