고등학생의 생활스트레스 경험이 우울, 무망감 및 자살생각에 미치는 영향 = Effects of high school students' Life Stress on their depression, hopelessness and suicidal ideation

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between life stress experience, depression, hopelessness and suicidal ideation of high school students.
The subjects of this study were 702 highschool students ( 252 in 1st, 254 in 2nd and 196 in 3rd grade) in Taejon and Chungnam. These subjects were given self-report questionnaires. Scales used in this study are The way of life stress Checklist, ZDI(Zung Depression Inventory), BHS(Beck hopelessness scale) and SSI(Scale for suicidal ideation). And this study used Cronbach's α coefficient, t-test, correlation and three Way ANOVA.
The results of this study are as follows ;
First, It has been found that there was meaningful correlation between life stress, depression and suicidal ideation. That is, the higher the level of stress was, the greater depression, hopelessness and suicidal ideation were. Although life stress does not necessarily have a influence on depression, hopelessness and suicidal ideation, it is considered that life stress can be the cause of them. In addition, it could be seen that students were getting the same life stress irrespective of their grade.
Second, it has been showed that the groups with personal relation-based stress ( a matter of relationships with family members and the teacher, a matter of friendship of the same or the opposite sex ) and impending task - based stress ( a matter of school work, leisure and amusement, health and physical growth, and daily life ) experienced higher mental depression, which had nothing to do with the school year.
Third, This study showed that the groups that were under impending task-based stress felt hopeless more severely. And this result had nothing to do with what grade they were in.
Forth, when they were under the impending task - based stress they thought of suicide more. This result was not also related to the school year.
It is clear that Korean adolescents are getting so much stress because of their hard school.... work, which affects the thought of suicide.

Adolescents may try to commit a suicide as a temporary reaction of stress, but they tend to do that as a means of solving the long-lasting mental pain.
Therefore, it is necessary to consider closely the correlation between depression, hopelessness and suicidal ideation to understand the internal process causing suicide and set up a prevention against suicide.
Not only to look into the correlation between life stress, depression and hopelessness, suicidal ideation but also to understand the adolescents' mental state, we need to make some kind of effort.
First, it is necessary to teach adolescents how to set up a proper cognitive strategy, how to relax and how to meditate, which can control depression, anxiety and anger so as to deal with stress effectively.
Second, many institutes and public places in which to deal with stress should be made and supported actively by the governments.
Third, Ethical education is needed. That is, we need to have the adolescents realize the importance of their own lives and the side-effect of suicide.
