Jin-muk who had lived in Myong-Jong of the Yi Dynasty, as a figure of historic fact, kept step with the populace and left a great many miracle and anecdote throug all life. Today the achievements of his lifetime that be left were held in the literary domain called tale rather- than historic fact. thesis discussed centering around Jin-Muk's tale handed down orally in the literary domain and referred to the literary tale which was recorded in the "An outline of the Korean oral literature" and "Biographical sketch of Saint Jin-Muk', too.
First of all I looked into the process that a figure of historic existence named Jin-Muk was narrated by the populace through the background of the times and thought that tale of Jin-Muk was formed. The Yi Dynasty's society that repressed Buddhism and esteemed confucianism of the day couldn't pledge the future, because Buddhism was desolated, popular life became imporerished and only confusion was increased. Fetters and irrationality of confucian actuality were transmitted to Saint Jin-Muk a savirtous priest that desires the world without poverty and pain of populace. Saint Jin-Muk didn't refuse worldly life as a priest but transcended the boundary between entering the priesthood and entering nirvana led life adhered to popular life. A figure of historic fact named Jin-Muk who had these constituents was fixed figure tale in addition to literary imagination of populace.
The enjoying class and the spot of transmission were investigated on the ground of that were divided broadly the enjoying class of Jin-Muk's tale into the priest or populace, Jin-Muk's tale was expressed enlightement, interest and historic cognition, which were due to enjoying class' status. I investigated structure and meaning of works that displayed religious feud in the midest of oral pattern of Jin-Muk's tale, "The reason why Jin-Muk died", "The origin of Jung-Tae-Gi" and "A occult power game of Jin-Muk and Bong-Gok". At this, "The reason why Jin-Muk died" was investigated structure, meaning and alterative aspect on the basis of each chapter of five chapters and that wa5 knowledge of situation popular life placed owing to oppositon between Buddhism and Confucianism, THis work was reflected Buddhistic development and enlightenment or ideal and desire of populace in accordance with this and popular life that recognized actuality and conquered was expressed.
"The origin of Jung-Tae-Gi" was not only means of religious enlightenment but also was interest from mysterious and queer act. class rank of meaning according to character that was opposed to Jin-Muk was expressed differently on the basis of each chapte of five chapters, also it has to be appraised according to personal ability, populace gave expression to denial of social system which was appraised in conformity with status. A work of "A occult power game of Jin-Muk and Bong-Gok", that appeared differently aspect of literature and oral tale, was antagonistic aspect of tradition in contrast with intimate aspect of literature. It was expective consciousness that populace wanted to substitute buddhistic world for confucian actuality of the day through opposition Jin-Muk and Bong-Gok. Consciousness of populace that wanted to surmount fetters and irrationality from confucian realism developed into religious from and was narrated.
Thematic properties of Jin-Muk's tale included development of buddhistic doctrine on the foundation of mystery and religious antagonism. This could be situation of the time and historic consciousness of populace in the prisent age. This part was talked buddhistic doctrine and development through opposition of buddhistic mysterious world and actual world view of confucianism. secondly, it is intention of popular consciousness. Talk mentioned as analytic object above was popular consciousness that person of the day recognized and intended through Jin-Muk and Bong-Gok. The Merciful religion of popular religious from through Jin-Muk as the Merciful Buddha had a meaning for intention of popular consciousness.
Thirdly, it is negotiation and antagonism of Buddhism, confucianism and Taoism. It was found antagonism bewteen Buddhism and Confucianism through opposition of Saint Jin-Muk and Bong-Gok. Each chapter Jin-Muk that was initiated into doctrine of the Heaven didn't use suitably doctrine and was punished, was negotiation of buddhistic Jin-Muk and confucian Bong-Gok on the basis of taoist foundation. Not only three chapters touched on above, othe pattern -"Saint Jin-Muk who held branch of incene and flower of a thousand years"- was shifted to filial piety for mother in confucian society. This also was expressed negotiation of buddhistic filial piety and confucian filial piety. It was accomplished religious from consolidated of Jin-Muk and Yun-Do-Sol-Am through investigation of the spot that Jin-Muk's tale handed down orally. Like this, I investigated negotiation and antagonism of several the relationship of religions and made a thematic meaning.
This thesis investgates only three works showed antagonism of several religions in Jin-Muk's tale and is nothing but the beginning to grasp entire meaning. The circumstance by the popular imagnation and was enjoyed a literary work become manifested religious act and consciousness of populace.
Research in oral work of this sort-state that Buddhism's and literature's were united- was buddhistic tale as religious function. Consequently I thought that-position of literary history would be possible after general investigation, because significant class rank of Jin-Huk's tale was manifested firmly.
