靑潭禪師의 文藝的 敎化方便 = Venerable Chung-dam's Literary ways for Instruction

국문 초록 (Abstract)

청담선사는 근·현대 한국불교사의 중흥조로서 불법의 구경을 깨닫고, 인욕·원력보살이 되어, 상구보리하면서 하화중생의 대업을 성취하였다. 선사는 한 평생 위대한 법력과 권능을 발휘하여 중생 교화의 대방편을 실현하였다. 그 대방편은 바로 문예적 교화방편으로 구체화하였다. 우선 청담선사는 참선·교학을 융화·대성하고 중생교화의 대원을 세워 그대로 솔선·수범하였다. 선사의 법력과 권능이 그 능변과 능문으로 표출되고 문예적 방법까지 동원하여, 조직적이고 입체적인 포교에 최후까지 헌신하였다.
실제로 청담선사는 문학적 재질과 문장력이 탁월하여 불교시가나 불교산문 등 불교문학을 직접 제작하여 문학포교 내지 문헌포교에 전념하였다. 그리고 선사는 이 불교문학을 바탕으로 시청각적 연행에 착안하여 불교미술·불교악무·불교연극을 통하여 중생교화의 효능을 극대화하였다. 그리하여 선사는 역대 포교 상에서 실제적인 거봉을 이루었다.
이에 청담선사의 실천적 교화는 한국불교사·포교사 상에서 찬연한 성황을 보이고, 그 문학적 교화는 불교문학사·한국문학사 상에서 중후한 위치를 차지하며, 그 예술적 교화는 불교예술사·한국예술사 상에서 확고한 좌표를 정립하게 되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Venerable Chung-dam is a restorer of modern Korean Buddhism. He attained enlightenment of the sole absolute truth and became a Forbearance Bodhi-suttva and Supplicatory Bodhi-suttva. Then he instructed all creatures and achieved a great monumental work of prosperous person. He showed great power of Buddhist and excellent authority and did his best to find and practice the instructional ways for creatures. One of the ways was to use art and literature. There are practical way, literary way and art way for instruction.
First, he showed the true value of practical way for instruction on his own initiative. Most of all, he was the great subject of modern instructional business to practice the zen-Buddhist meditation fairly with excellent Buddhist power and authority. He set a distinguished ideal for instructing all creatures, practical ways and concrete objects. Then he carried the various ways for instruction with mass media, system, Buddhist sermon, Buddhist writings, etc.
Second, he took advantage of literary way for instruction. The background of instruction literature was based on Buddhist literature and instruction, which he used to succeed in and improve when he produced poetry and prose for instructing all creatures as an effective way. The poetry showed themes like omnipotence of mind and identity with various writing techniques. The prose developed the theme of poetry like essay.
Third, he applied art way for instruction in three dimensions. The instructional art had the same background as the literary way. He convinced that he should make them as the modern ways for instruction. So he choose Buddhist painting, music and play so that he could obtain the satisfactory results. Most of all, he himself practiced them equipped with sufficient talent.
In conclusion, his instructional ways using art and literature had sufficient bottom to be a practical way, which they were established ,harmonized and played an important role with great capability. Namely, venerable Chung-dam's practical way for instruction was subjected and became a model of what modern instructional ways ought to be. His art way for instruction spoke for aspects of modern Buddhist art and general art. So his practical way for instruction showed a brilliant prosperity in the history of Korean Buddhism and mission and his literary way for instruction in that of Buddhist literature and Korean literature. His art way for instruction also did it in that of Buddhist art and korean art. Now venerable Chung-dam became an excellent Buddhist artist and mental leader as a instruction Bodhi-suttva.
