It can be said that as the result of the preponderance of the highest material civilization in the twentieth century, the modern society is faced to the crises of human morality and destroyed the justice and the ethical viewpoints. Therefore in order to look straight and be aware of the reality, it is significant to grope how to carry the knowledge gained into new field by studying the old morality and to construct the trend of the sound society.
In this respect, I think that it will be very important in overcoming the crises of the modern morality and reestablishing the right mental culture educational idea to reaffirm and practice the traditional rationality in Cofucian based on the Confucius (Kong Sa).
The traditional idea in the Orient has existed in the aspect of the complexity produced by means of the exclusion and union of the three schools - Confusian, Buddhism, Morals. Among them, the Confusian idea has played an important role and influenced on the human ethical tradition. It will be momentous to consider the course of the change and the original soul of Confusian. Also, it will be the basis and moment in understanding the human characteristics.
Confucius has been valued as one who succeeded to the morals of ancient times and sublimed it as that of the new, higher dimension. The core of the Confucian idea, summed up through Confucius, which was integrated and melted in the conception of teachings, must be looked as the moral norm of humanity, righteousness, courtesy and wisdom being revealed to the inner characteristics of man from the final, metaphysical dimension, the measure of solution about the realistic problems in politics, society, education etc., and the principle of the unverse including the heaven, man and actual condition.
Conficius has been respected as the greatest man in the Chinese history, and therefore he has been considered to be both the great sage whom the heaven dispatched and the one not to be rivaled by anyone since the dawn of history.
As the revolutionist of the education idea as well as the reformist, of the political one, he tried not only to deviate from the absolute politics and the idea of the feudal society, but also to make all the people get an educational freedom and a political equality. He also, collected into a single volume of selection of poems, and institutionalized Art and Music, and wrote the Chronicles of Lu, and established the basis of morality and so on.
He left immortal contributions which were coinsidcd with, what we call, a mental science of modern and the way of its practice. Thus this paper is based on the Four Books which recorded Confucius speech and action faithfully and creditably.
And others through all the bibliographies written Confucius speech and Confucian scholars scriptures which had recorded Confucius speech and action, I considered an educational philosophy among his great philosophy and investigated what meaning he contained for creating of the sense of the modern value and finding a new meaning.
Confucianism is not only the main current of Chinese idea but also the main artery of Chinese culture.
If there were the greatest contributions of Confucianism, it would be the task that Confucian had certainly established the basis of Chinese unification from both the aspect of thought and education.
Some people summerized the Chinese learning into so-called humanism, but its central idea has the character of emphasizing the Confucianism based on the philosophical, and educational ground of the moral nature of human beings. The value of Chinese learning can be said to lie in bringing to light the general brightness of human nature.
Like this, the theory of a Confucian scholar must make the main point of doing things in person. In this respect Confucius (Kong-Sa)must have been a great educator with the greatest philosophical thought of the ancient China. He systematized the human ideal through education, integrated metaphysical Confucian thought and achieved the perfect educational philosophy of human knowledge by establishing the view of educator and finishing the methodology of teaching. It was never by chance that he came to be respected as a model of humanity with the effect that he exert on the coming age and with the contribution that he made on the whole human race.
We can say that Confucias advocated the teaching of virtue and his educational idea was the part of his moral idea. He presented the way to practice the faithful personality by teaching the human beings, because he developed it as the system of the human-educational idea.
It may be a superficial knowledge to investigate the Confucius idea which was vast and profound in spite of my lacking of knowledge about learning. But, as a student majoring in Chinese literature, I dared to look into the Confucius who was one of the Four-Saint in the world and was the father of Confucian. It is thought that if we would succeed and develop the Confucias educational philosophy which will be the ground of the moderns, we will contribute to the education and mental-culture of human beings.
