B-G Test反應水準과 不適應行動과의 關係 = A Study on the Relationship between the Results of the Bender-Gestalt Test and Problem Behaviors of Middle-School Students

The Bender Visual Motor Gestalt Test, commonly known as the Bender-Gestalt Test(B-G Test), is widely used by clinical psychologists, predominantly for detection of brain damage. In this test, the nine simple designs shown in Figure 1 are presented successively one at a time.
The examinee is instructed to copy each design, after sample placed in front of him. The designs were selected by Bender from a longer series originally employed by Wertheimer, one the founders of Gestalt School, in his studies of visual perception.
The particular designs were constructed so as ye illustrate certain principles of Gestalllt psychogy, and Bender's own analyses of the test results are formulated in terms of Gestalt concepts.
The present study attempted to investigate the relationships between the results of B-G test and problem behaviors of middle-school students.
The subjects include 45 male and 48 fermale students attending the 8th grade in Gong-Ju.
The instruments used were the nine designs of B-G test and child behavior checklist measuring 9 problem behaviors in male(Somatic Complaints, Schizoid, Uncommunicative, Immature, Obsessive-Comuplsive, Hostile withdrawal, Delinquent, Aggressive, Hyperactive) and 8 problem behaviors in female (Anxious Obsessive, Somatic Complaints, Schizoid, Depressed Withdrawal Immature-Hyperactive, Delinquent. Aggressive, Cruel).
The results of B-G test were scored Pascal and Suttell's quantitative method and the data collected was analyzed one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's test, w2, pearson's correlation All the analyses were done SPSS program for computer.
Major findings from this study are summarized as follows:
1. Significant differences are not found between male student's responses and female student's responses. That is to say, student's maturation levels are not influeced by sexual factor.
2 In male student, 5 problem behaviors(Shizoid, Uncommunicative, Obsessive-Compulsive, Hostile Withdrawal, Aggressive)Showed statically significant differences among three responses of the B-G test. In femal student, statistically significant differences were found among three responses of the B-G test in the case of 5 problem behaviors Anxious Obsessive, Schizoid, Depressed Withdrawa, Immature-Hyperactive, Aggerssive.
And w2 values were: .001∼. 522(male). 015∼. 439(female).
3. Significant correlations between results of the B-G test and of the MMPI, SCL-90-R, Rorschach Test were observed. And the reliability of the B-G test are .81 in test-retest method and .86 in inter-scorer method. This study, therefore, supports both inter-rater and test-retest reliability of the B-G test.
