The relationship between Korean langauge and Mongolian language can be considered from two angles. One is that the two languages have the same Origin. So it is necessary to compare between them to prove that. The other is that many loanwords had been furnished to them because of the contact between Korea and Mongolia in the thirteenth century, and the era of Mongolian Empire.
The comparisom of Korean with Mongolian reveals degrees of similarity among them in race, physical anthropology, folklore, and many other fields. In linguistics they're closely related to each other, and the summary about the comparison and borrowing between them is as follows.
First, the hypothesis that both Korean and Mongolian belong to the Altaic languages is not a settled theory yet. It has some problems because many loanwords are found in the process of demonstrating it.
Second, the semi-Altaic hypothesis, claimed by Benzing Ligeti, Clauson, Doerfer etc, is confined only to Mongolian and Turkish. They're seen to have many loanwords from the other because the one was in the relation taking and taken by the other through many centuries.
Third, Korea, Manchu-Tungus and Mongolia have much in common: they're geographically adjacent: they have the racial characteristics, such as a Mongolian spot; they share many characters in physical anthrophology; their relics and customs resemble each other. Therefore a hypothesis can be proposed that their languages belong to a language family. Above all it is necessary to hypothesize and consider that the North Asia language family consists of Korean, Manchu-Tungus and Mongolian.
Fourth, the words referring to bodily parts in Korean are similar to those in Mongolian. Though we have to consider the phenomena, such as phonological correspondance, in detail, we'll have to study deep into it and prove the similarity of the basic vocabularies among them.
Fifth, Korean is very analogous to Mongolian in grammatical elements as well as in basic vocabularies: noun declension, verb conjugation, word order, phonological input elements, etc.
Finally, in the thirteenth century, and the era of Mongolian Empire, many words were borrowed from Mongolian to Korean. Among them there are many names of horse, hawk, food, clothes, official posts, the things of military, etc. The loanwords are also found in the place names in Jeju Island.
