기업의 업종 특성을 반영한 e-Learning 전략: 금융업, 정보통신업, 제조업 사례를 중심으로 = Industry-Specific Workplace e-Learning Strategies: In Case of Finance, IT, and Manufacturing Industries

The purpose of this study is to analyze diverse and unique e-Learning cases that reflect industry uniqueness in order to promote diversification and industry-specific e-Learning and provide implications for further development of workplace e-Learning. First, we selected three companies representing three industrial sectors (i.e., information technology, finance/banking, manufacturing). Then, we developed an analysis framework to systematically analyze each workplace e-Learning case. Based on the framework, we conducted written surveys as well as interviews with learners and e-Learning specialists in each company. Each company also provided related documents and data upon our requests. Main products of finance/bank industry are invisible and easy to be copied from competitors. Thus, it is critical for the finance/bank industry to minimize the time between the creation or production of a new product and release to the market. S bank in our study develops and implements Rapid e-Learning strategies to meet such a just-in-time education and training needs of the finance/bank industry. Another important purpose of education and training in the finance/bank industry is to change behaviors of employees who directly provide services to customers. S bank implements many scenario-based courses that show good and bad cases employees may encounter in real-life situations. Similarly, the rapid changes in IT industry requires just-in-time learning utilizing learning resources in addition to regular learning courses. Various learning resources are organized and managed in a knowledge-management system that integrates learning and practice. The IT industry demands for hands-on exercises to learn delicate techniques of how to use complex instruments or a communication network. In order to meet this educational needs, K company utilizes simulation, animation or video captures for teaching specific techniques and instruments, in particular, when it is practically difficult to work with real networks or instruments. In addition, IT companies are actively trying out new technologies such as m-Learning to maximize educational effectiveness utilizing the advanced level of IT literacy of their employees and advanced IT infrastructure and technologies they own. In the case of the manufacturing industry including P company in our study, high integration between work field practices and work system seems to be critical in improving performance. Compared to office workers whose tasks often involve a computer at hands, field workers need special consideration in their physical learning environments. Blended learning is one of the strategies that accommodate unique work and learning style of learners in manufacturing industry who do not have a constant access to personal computers while working their job. Based on the results, the study proposes strategies that each industrial sector needs to consider in order to actualize more effective e-Learning environment reflecting unique characteristics of respective business and industry.
