네일아트의 조형성과 오브제 확장에 관한 연구 = (A) study on formative feature of nail art and extension of object

국문 초록 (Abstract)

대량생산과 소비로 물질적 풍요를 구가하고 있는 오늘, 현대의 예술가들은 그 같은 풍요로운 삶과 다양성을 배경으로 창의적 예술세계를 한껏 펼치고 있다. 이 가운데서도 주변과 주위환경의 일상적이고 사소한 많은 경험들과 관련된 대상물들을 매개체로 한 예술 영역 역시 순수 예술 분야 못지않은 새로운 세계를 지속적으로 열어가고 있음을 본다.
예술계 전반의 이러한 변화와 더불어 오랜 미술사를 관통하며 증명되어 온 주요한 사실 중 하나는 인체(人體)란 그 자체가 예술적 완성도를 갖고 있는 동시에 작가들에게는 창조와 아름다움의 시작이자 종결의 그것으로서 최고의 오브제란 점이다. 특히 미술가들에게 있어 사람의 몸을 표현하는 방식은 작가와 시대에 따라 유감없는 독창성을 발휘하면서 고정관념을 깨뜨려왔다. 그리고 신체의 연장이자 하나의 상징화된 문화 언어로서 독창적 예술세계를 인정받고 있는 패션과 헤어디자인, 메이크업, 네일아트의 분야 역시 각각의 역할과 기능을 부여받은 가운데 영역별 발전을 거듭해 오고 있다. 이들은 인체의 아름다움을 최대한 돋보이게 한다는 고유의 목적을 예술성과 독창성으로 합일화해 가는 과정에 놓여 있다. 지난(至難)한 예술의 역사에 비한다면 아직까지 일천한 수준에 머물러 있긴 하지만 네일아트 역시 이러한 원리에 그대로 적용되면서, 다양한 예술적 표현을 통한 궁극적 미의 추구란 점에서 예술의 전통을 이어받고자 노력해 가고 있다.
본 연구가 시도한 네일아트의 조형성과 오브제 확장에 관한 고찰은 관련 분야에 몇 가지 중요한 시사점을 갖고 있다. 우선 작품을 통해 일상의 주변 환경에서 볼 수 있는 사소한 사물과 미용에서의 다양한 소재와 재료들을 일관된 시각에서 분석, 파악해 본다는 점이다. 이는 네일아트가 단순히 신체 일부에서 행해지는 평면적 행위가 아니라는 점을 명확하게 가름할 수 있다는 점에서 가장 기본적인 접근이라 할 것이다.
다음은 네일아트의 기법과 관련된 것으로, 반드시 손톱 위에 나타내어야 한다는 고정 관념에 기반한 기존의 단순사고를 탈피하고 그럼으로써 종래의 표현재료의 한계를 극복하는 동력을 확보하게 된다는 점이다. 특히 네일아트 오브제 확장에 관한 다양한 분석과 연구는 네일아트가 예술의 한 분야로 확실한 위치를 점하는데 이론적 근거를 갖게 한다는 점에서 매우 중요하다 할 것이다. 오브제 확장의 표현은 네일아트의 평면성에 입체감이 돋보이는 독창적인 조형세계를 표출할 수 있게 만들어 네일아트를 조형예술의 한 장르로 한 차원 뛰어 올려 발전시켜 나가게 한다. 이 같은 연구를 위한 이론적 터전으로 미학, 미술, 건축, 패션, 미용 등의 분야에서 선행 연구 논문을 중심으로 고찰하게 되었다. 다만 네일아트의 범주를 미술사조에 근거하여 전체적으로 다루기에는 너무 광범위하여 오브제의 개념과 연관하여 큐비즘(Cubism)에서 팝아트(Pop Art)까지로 범위를 제한하였다. 시대적으로는 큐비즘이 태동한 20세기 초반부터 중반까지를 다루게 된다.
연구 절차로 현대미술의 오브제 출현에 있어서 조형예술로서의 오브제에 대한 개념 및 도입과 오브제 유형의 특징을 분석하였으며, 오브제 개념의 활용으로 공간과 오브제의 상호작용 등을 살펴보았다. 이어 미용예술의 큰 범주 가운데 하나인 네일아트에서 오브제 역할로 네일아트 조형에 있어서 형태(Form), 공간(Space)을 밑거름으로 네일아트에 대한 개념과 예술성을 이해하고, 네일아트에 표현된 오브제를 중심으로 유형과 그 역할을 살펴보았다.
오브제와 네일아트의 연계성에 있어서는 평면에서 3차원의 물질이 혼용되는 3D 오브제 작품들을 타입별로 구분하여 작품을 살펴보았고, 현대미술에서 오브제로 큐비즘과 오브제, 초현실주의와 오브제를 중심으로 연구자의 작품과 연관된 이론들을 도출하여 이들 대표 작가들의 작품 비교를 통해 그 유형을 분석하는 방식을 선택했다. 마지막으로 위의 내용을 토대로 연구자의 네일 조형 작품을 큐비즘과 초현실주의 성향별로 크게 구분하여 제시하면서 이미지 분석에 있어 몽환적이고 은유적인 이미지의 작품에 대한 구도, 기호학적 형태, 색채, 질감 등을 중심으로 분석하였다.
이와 같은 연구 결과 현대 회화에서 나타난 오브제 환경은 그 변화에 있어 매우 큰 발전을 모색하고 있는 가운데, 이를 바탕으로 한 미용분야의 네일아트 적용과 응용은 조형적인 상호 상관성을 긴밀하게 유지하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 오브제 연구의 출발지점으로 삼았던 큐비즘의 조형적 특성은 피카소와 브라크에 의해 단순히 화면에 풀로 붙이는 과정의 파피에콜레와 더 나아가 화면에 부착하는 콜라주 기법의 추상적 표현을 들 수 있다. 프로이드의 정신분석학의 영향으로 시도되었던 초현실주의는 무의식과 꿈, 환상의 세계를 배경으로 오토마티즘과 아상블라주로 표현되었으며, 사물과 사물간의 이질적인 물체들의 결합을 통한 콤바인 페인팅 탄생으로 이어졌다. 뒤이어 미국의 대량소비 시대를 의미하는 대량생산적인 이미지를 재현하는 팝아트도 주요한 한 축을 형성했다.
이러한 미술사조가 네일아트 분야에 영향을 미쳤다는 점은 누구도 부인할 수 없다. 예컨대 지난 시기 동안 네일아트 조형은 반드시 아크릴릭 파우더(Acrylic powder)를 이용한다라는 고정관념을 탈피하게 되었고 입체주의와 초현실주의 기법을 다양하게 활용하게 되었다. 즉 상호 이질적인 물체들의 결합을 통해 입체적으로 올리거나 붙여서 표현할 수 있게 됐었으며, 한발 더 나아가 이 기법은 손톱을 3차원적 조형 공간으로 표현할 수 있다는 효과를 창출해 냈다.
미용예술분야에서 표현된 오브제 연구는 인간의 외적․내적인 심상의 이미지와 연결하여 평면상에 입체감이 돋보이도록 3D 일러스트레이션을 활용한 디자인 창조로 이어졌다.
결론적으로 네일아트는 기존의 네일아트의 단순한 기법에서 탈피하여 종래의 표현재료의 한계를 극복하여 어떤 예술 분야와도 접목하여 새로운 조형예술을 창출할 수 있다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 예술성이 가미된 네일아트의 무한한 가능성의 모색은 네일아트가 미용예술의 한 장르로서 네일미용 발전에 기여하고 있음을 보여줌과 동시에 역으로 네일아트의 발전이 여타 예술세계에 영향을 미쳐 새로운 예술을 창조할 수 있다는 가능성을 열어 두고 있다할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Today when we enjoy material prosperity with mass production and consumption, contemporary artists have fully developed their creative world of art based on abundant life and diversity. Among others, the art field which uses object related with daily and minor experience in surroundings as a medium has continuously opened new world just as fine art fields.
In addition to such changes in art at large, one of important facts which has been long demonstrated in the history of art is that the human body itself has artistic integrity, as well as is the beginning and the end of creation and beauty and the best object to artists. In particular, artists have broken with our stereotypes in ways to express the human body, fully displaying originality according to artist or times. Moreover, such fields as fashion, hair design, make-up, and nail art which receive much recognition as unique world of art as the extension of the body and one symbolized cultural language have repeated growth while they are given their own role and function. They are in the process of unifying their inherent aim to make the beauty of the body look better into artistry and originality. Although nail art is only a short time compared with difficult history of art, it is applicable to this principle and has made efforts to take over the tradition of art in the sense of pursuit of ultimate beauty through a variety of artistic expression.
A study on the formative feature of nail art and the extension of object attempted by this study has some important suggestion in related fields. First of all, it analyzes and grasps minor objects we can see in daily surroundings and a variety of themes and materials in beauty art from a consistent view through works. It can be the most fundamental approach to clearly see that nail art is not an only flat act which is done in the part of the body.
Next is related with the technique of nail art. This study will contribute to breaking with a prevalent simple idea based on a stereotype that nail art must be represented on the nail and securing a power source to overcome the limitation of conventional expression materials. In particular, the various analysis and research on the extension of nail art object is very important because it will provide a theoretical basis to establish a firm position of nail art as one field of art. The expression of extended object will help express unique formative world which adds solidity to flatness of nail art and contribute to the development of nail art at a higher level as one genre of formative art. Reveiw on previous researches was conducted on aesthetics, art, architecture, fashion, and beauty art to establish the theoretical basis of study. But since the history of art was too broad to apply to nail art, the range was limited range from cubism to pop art(in early-to-mid 20th century) in relation to object concept.
For the study procedure, the concept and introduction of object as formative art and the characteristics of object types were analyzed in the aspect of emergence of object in contemporary art. Also, interaction between space and object was examined as the use of object concept. Next, the roles of object in nail art which is one of major categories of beauty art were considered. The concept and artistry of nail art was grasped on the basis of form and space in nail art formativeness and the types and roles of object expressed in nail art.
To analysis connection between object and nail art, 3D object works which are mixed by 3D materials in the plane were divided by type first. Then, theories related with this researcher's works were derived from cubism of contemporary art and object of surrealism, and type analysis was conducted by comparing works by representative artists. Finally, based on this analysis, this researcher's nail art works were largely divided into cubist and surrealist styles and analysis was made in composition, semiotic form, color, and texture of fantastic and metaphorical images.
The results suggest that object environment in contemporary painting has explored great development in its change and the application of nail art is closely correlated with formativeness. Formative characteristic of cubism which was the starting point of object research is abstract expression of papiers colles by Picasso and Braque which pastes the canvas simply and collage which is attached to the canvas. Surrealism which was attempted under the influence of psycho-analysis by Freud was expressed as automatism and assemblage based on unconsciousness, dream, and fantasy and led to combine painting which combines heterogeneous materials. Subsequently, pop art which reproduces the image of mass production that means the period of mass consumption in USA plays one part.
Nobody can deny that such history of art has influenced the nail art field. For example, it was possible to break with a stereotype that nail art must use acrylic powder(sculptured nail) and apply cubist surrealist skills in various ways. In other words, it was possible to place and attach solidly through combining heterogeneous materials and further this technique created an idea that a nail can be expressed as 3D formative space.
The study on object expressed in the beauty art field is connected to design creation using 3D illustration which highlights solidity in the plane in association with internal and external image of human beings.
In conclusion, it is confirmed that nail art can graft into all art fields to create new formative art by getting out of the existing simple technique and overcoming limitation of conventional expression materials. Accordingly, exploring limitless possibility of nail art which adds artistry not only indicates its contribution to development as one genre of beauty art, but also opens possibility that the development of nail art can lead to creation of new art by influencing other art fields.
