동시대 한국과 중국의 영화에 나타난 사회적 ‘소외’ 현상 — 「강호아녀(江湖兒女)」와 「버닝」의 서사 비교 분석을 중심으로 = Social ‘Alienation’ Phenomenon in Contemporary Korean Film & Chinese Films: Focusing on the Comparative Analysis of Narrative Structure between Ash Is Purest White and Burning

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Today, as global capital expands, Korea and China at the same time have radically changed social structures, and at the same time, were accompanied by numerous social problems. In the film industry, works that reflect social reality are rapidly increasing, and expressing the universal relationship between humans and society is a very universal demand with a sense of the times. The films Ash Is Purest White and Burning, screened at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, expressed the type of relationship between the individual and society at the same time among the series of films directed by Jia Zhangke and Lee Chang dong. In addition, psychological changes in the situation and behavior of lower-class individuals and the modern social structure order are typical of the individual’s interest in alienation. It can be said that this paper took this as a premise for narrative comparison. Therefore, in this paper, Ash Is Purest White and Burning were analyzed through Greimas’s narrative semiotics and Lacan’s psychoanalysis. It was intended to interpret the summoned universal social problem.
First, the in-depth narrative of the text was analyzed through the sign rectangle of Greimas, and by observing the composition of the opposition, contradiction, and connotation relationship between the two basic propositions of Ash Is Purest White and Burning, The meaning of the in-depth narrative was derived. Next, through Lacan’s subject theory and two-stage theory, we looked at the narrative structure of different actions from character psychology. Through the above analysis, the following conclusions could be drawn.
First, what each film represents is premised on two incompatible propositions established by the mainstream society. Second, because they have these impossible logical premises at the same time, the narrative character subject has been alienated by social groups. Third, in the irrational social system order, the lower classes are alienated by social groups and cause changes in different behaviors, that is, loss of individuals and rebellion. With the development of the times, the behavior and psychological changes of the groups of people belonging to the lower classes are humanitarian concerns of the directors, lamenting their impatience toward society and the difficult world, and pitying the suffering of the people.
