보물 지정 노서동 금귀걸이와 황오동 금귀걸이의 연구 = Study of the earrings from Nohseo-dong and Hwangoh-dong, respectively designated ‘Treasures’

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문에서는 2018년 보물 제455호로 재지정된 경주 노서동 금귀걸이와 보물 제2001호로 새로 지정된 경주 황오동 금귀걸이를 중심으로, 각 유물의 현황과 제작기법 및 양식적 특징을 살펴보았다. 이 두 쌍의 금귀걸이는 지금까지 신라 고분에서 출토된 수많은 금귀걸이 중에서도 특히 뛰어난 누금세공기법과 조형성을 보여주는 명품들로서 중요하다. 그러나 1950년대 이후 이 두 귀걸이의 명칭과 출토 위치가 잘못 알려진 상태로 2000년대까지 그 오류가 파악되지 않았다. 그 이유는 일제강점기인 1933년 일본인들에 의해서 발굴된 경주 노서동 215번지 고분의 발굴보고서가 2000년에야 간행되었기 때문이다. 한편, 황오동 귀걸이는 1949년 황오동 52호분에서 출토되었는데, 이 고분 역시 발굴 직후 일어난 전쟁으로 인하여 지금까지 발굴보고서가 간행되지 않아서 구체적인 상황이 알려져 있지 않았다. 여기에서는 이러한 두 귀걸이의 발굴 과정 및 연구 현황을 검토하고, 일제강점기 이후 지금까지의 신라 금귀걸이 연구 현황에 대해서도 종합적으로 검토하였다. 한편, 보물 제2001호 황오동 금귀걸이는 누금세공기법으로 장식된 입체적이고 독특한 수하식의 형태가 중요한 특징인데, 지금까지는 이 수하식의 형태를 근대적 시각에서 “입체 펜촉형”으로 불러왔다. 본고에서는 이 수하식의 형태가 한국의 자생식물이자 약용식물로 알려진 “금낭화”의 꽃모양과 상당히 유사함을 밝히고, 이러한 형태의 수하식 명칭을 향후 “금낭화형”으로 변경할 것을 제안하였다. 아직까지 신라 금귀걸이에 대한 연구는 형식과 제작기법을 중심으로 진행되어 왔지만, 향후 연구에서는 이 귀걸이들이 내포한 문화사적 의의를 살펴볼 필요가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper examines the nature, production technology, and stylistic characteristics of the pair of earrings from Noseo-dong, Gyeongju (designated Treasure No. 455 in 2018) and the pair of earrings from Hwangoh-dong, Gyeongju (designated Treasure No. 2001 in 2018). Amongst the numerous gold earrings recovered from Silla tombs, these two pairs are important masterpieces that demonstrate excellent formative properties and the superior use of the filigree technique. However, from the 1950s, the names and contexts of discovery for these two pairs of earrings had been wrongly perceived, and this mistake was only identified after 2000. In the case of the earrings from Noseo-dong, this was because the excavation report of the Noseo-dong 215 Beonji Tomb, which had been excavated in 1933 by Japanese archaeologists during the period of Japanese occupation, was finally published in 2000. The other pair of earrings had been discovered in 1949 at the Hwango-dong Tomb No. 52; however, due to the confusion of the Korean War that had begun soon afterwards, the excavation report had yet to be published and the details of the excavation left unknown. This paper examines the contexts of the discoveries of the two pairs of earrings; its also reviews the research that has been carried out on these earrings, in addition to presenting a literature review of studies on Silla earrings that have taken place since the period of Japanese occupation. The unique, three-dimensional shape of the hanging ornaments of the Hwango-dong earrings, designated Treasure No. 2001, is of great importance. Until know, hanging ornaments of this shape were referred to as ‘three-dimensional pen nib’ type hanging ornaments from a modern perspective. In this paper, it is pointed out that such hanging ornaments are similar in shape to the blossoms of the Dicentra spectabilis. Known as ‘Geumnanghwa’ in Korean, this flower is native to Korea and used as a herb. As such, it is suggested that hanging ornaments of this shape should hereafter be referred to as ‘Geumnanghwa’ type hanging ornaments. In addition, it is proposed that, in contrast to previous studies on Silla gold earrings which have mainly centered upon type and production technique, future research should focus on the cultural-historical meanings embedded in these earrings.
