Due to the rapid development of low-power micro-sensor technology and wireless communication technology, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been developed for monitoring-related applications such as habitat monitoring, applications such as detection and tracking of moving objects, agricultural and environmental fields. It is increasingly being used in many places, such as monitoring in smart homes, monitoring and detection in the military, and medical fields such as measuring body functions. Wireless sensor nodes constituting WSNs in various environments with these various purposes are usually installed for the same purpose except for special purposes, and the data collected by operating is similar. Sensor nodes constituting WSNs are mostly operated by batteries, so it is difficult to replace or continuously supply power. In applications such as environmental monitoring, the collected information has the characteristic that it is constant rather than greatly changing over time, but in applications such as detection or tracking of moving objects, the amount of data generated by each sensor when a specific event occurs is large. In addition, the requirement to be transmitted to the destination sink node within a limited time must also be satisfied.
In this paper, in a situation where the wireless sensor network is expanding its use to various industrial fields over time, the entire network by reducing the initial energy consumption of sensor nodes operated by batteries that are difficult to replace and difficult to recharge as much as possible. The purpose of this paper is to design a MAC protocol that can effectively reduce the overall average transmission delay from the source node to the sink node or medical staff as well as to extend the lifespan of . The MAC protocols proposed in this paper not only extend the lifetime of the entire network by reducing the energy consumption of the nodes constituting the network in wireless sensor networks for applications such as environmental monitoring, but also detect and chase moving objects or harm the human body. It is an efficient protocol for transmission delay that can be applied to the WBSNs environment where various physical characteristics such as blood pressure and pulse are measured through attachments or implants to allow medical staff to take appropriate measures.
This paper consists of papers published in domestic and foreign journals, and the final goal of all papers is to reduce the total transmission delay from the source node to the sink node, reduce the energy consumption of each sensor node, and increase the overall network lifetime.
Particularly, in Chapter 5, the design purpose and design method of super-frame adjustment and slot reservation based MAC protocol for wireless body area networks called H-MAC (Health MAC) protocol for health applications were described. In the H-MAC protocol, packet senders can send bursts of data when there is an urgent event such as a heartbeat. Since these events are usually important, the measured burst data must be reliably and quickly transmitted to the final destination, the medical staffs, within a limited time. The H-MAC protocol showed the result of having the advantage of reducing transmission delay of packets containing urgent data information and extending network lifespan in performance comparison with existing related MAC protocols.
As a result of comparing performance with similar MAC protocols through simulation, it was confirmed that the protocols proposed in this paper are superior in energy efficiency of sensor nodes and overall average transmission delay comparison. In the future, using artificial intelligence, research will be conducted on solving the problem of efficient movement of building elevators and designing energy-efficient MAC protocols in the IoT (Internet of Thing) environment.
