디지털 사진에서 비수정사진과 수정사진의 예술적 가치 연구 = A Study for the Artistic Value of the Direct Photograph and the Manipulated Photograph in Digital Photography

Photography is engaged with public art with a digital technology. Most photographers have to learn new techniques and pay expensive costs instead of getting the opportunity of various creative expressions. On the other hand, we can find that there is more importance for stimulative visualization rather than rely upon the basis of artistic philosophy from recently presented digital photographic art works. Therefore it is time that we should consider and prepare a suitable standard of appraisal of artistic value in our digital era today. I intend to find the yardstick and the ways of appraisal of artistic value in this area, and to provide a basis of creative artistic philosophy for photographers in this digital period. Through this research, I hope to establish the following : Methodology: This research is divided into two stages. In the first stage, I analyse the value of the Manipulated Photograph and the D irect Photograph with quotations from artists and a defined terminology of photography as a subjective research. In the second stage, I will experiment with visual and sensual reaction of photographers toward the Manipulated Photograph, together with the opinion of a specimen group of 13 professional photographers, after showing them four sample pictures of Direct Photographs and Manipulated Photographs as an objective research. I asked myself four questions to develop the research aims. 1. What are the differences of meanings of terminologies between Manipulated photography and Direct photography? 2. What is the relationship between the final work and the intents of the photographer` s decision when confronting the object in digital photography? 3. How can I appraise the artistic value of the manipulated photographs by the computer? 4. What is the viewpoint of professional photographers about the artistic value of manipulated photography by such computerised means? However, my main intention is to highlight that digital photography can make a serious art work by photographers who have the same consciousness as an artist working in other mediums.
