Nuffield Biology 에 대한 분석적 연구 = An Analytical Study on the Nuffield Biology

In order to get the datum for developing an ideal biology curriculum in Korea, the first and the second editions of the British Nuffield Biology and the recent editions of the Korean High School Biology Textbooks were analyzed and compared each other. As a result, the following findings were obtained: 1. In the first edition of the Nuffield Biology, the theme covers structure and the level, tissue and organ; the levels of molecule and cell are not fully stressed. Thus the first edition of the Nuffieid Biology is considered to be closer to the conventional textbook. 2. In the second edition of the Nuffield Biology, the theme covers structure and function and the level, tissue and organ as in the first edition. Even though molecular and cellular ler-els are reinforced a little bit, the second edition also is considered to be within the category of the conventional textbook. 3. The recent editions of the Korean High School Biology Textbooks concentrate on structure and function in the themes and individual in the levels. The considerable stress is paid on the molecular and cellular level in these textbooks. 4. Whereas the Nuffield Biology is considered to be closer to the conventional textbook in the viewpoint of the BSCS conceptual idea of theme and level, it is noticeable that it exhibits the biology as an inquiry science. The Korean High School Biology Textbook shows the modern biological feature but it does not exhibit any inquiry scientific stream in method of science education. 5. It is desirable to adopt the current biological tendency from the BSCS, the concept of the inquiry biological science from the Nuffield Biology for the improvement of the ideal biology curriculum in the Korean High Schools.
