영화 『 처녀들의 저녁식사 』 에 대한 반응을 통해 본 대학생들의 성의식 연구 = A Study of University Students` Consciousness on Sexuality through Reading Responses to the Korean Film , The Virgins` Dinner

This paper aims to investigate Korean university students` responses to the contemporary Korean film, The virgin`s Dinner, related to the representation of female sexual subjectivities. For this study, students in two groups, one for a class on the American and English Novel in the spring semester of 1999 and the other for a class on Gender, Sexuality and Cultural Representation in the autumn semester in 2001, expressed their diverse responses to three women characters, Ho-Hung, Sun-I, and Yeon-I. Most women students sympathized with Yeon-I, whose sexual consciousness was changed towards sexual subjectivity, in parallel with the story`s development. On the other hand, most men students noticed that discussions of sexuality in their peer groups are influenced by male-oriented culture. While the students in the class on the American and English Novel were more interested in their reflexive process of sexual consciousness, the students in the class on Gender, Sexuality, and Cultural Representation were more focused on more progressive and diverse ideas about female sexual subjectivities. These kinds of differences are influenced by the purpose of the course as well as the time difference, a tow-hear gap. Therefore, they have undergone the invaluable experience of thinking about their own sexuality and sexual subjectivity, and passed through the writing process. This kind of self-reflexive teaching method is useful because it expects to stimulate their awareness and the awakening of their everyday lives, as related to gender sensitivity and sexual consciousness.
