『군기(群旗)』 사건과 엄흥섭의 초기 소설 = The Kun-gi(群旗) incident and Euhm Hueng-sub`s early works

This thesis is aimed at defining characteristics of Euhm Hueng-sub`s early works. Most researchers have shared their opinions that he was one of the participatory writers after he was involved in the Kun-gi incident. This article consists of the description of these participatory writers by KAPF, properties of the Kun-gi incident, and Euhm`s works after his expulsion from the group. This treatise is intended to define Euhm`s standing in Korean literature based on this approach. These participatory writers are to be divided into two categories: Those who wrote proletarian literature albeit out of KAPF, and hard-core KAPF members who considered themselves participatory writers based on their own criteria. As for Euhm, it is hard to conclude that he was one of the participatory writers since he served as one of the commissioners of KAPF, most KAPF members smacked of the underground writers, and the criteria for participatory writers were too subjective. In addition, the Kun-gi incident was triggered by internal disputes among KAPF members over editorial rights to its bulletins. This event was a result of unilateral crackdowns committed in the name of streamlining the leadership of the group. Not only that, there is no noticeable changes in his ideological logic based on Bolshevism after the Kun-gi incident. This observation can be reinforced by analyzing his novels published prior to and after his bolt from KAPF such as 「A Village in the Past」, 「Insolvency」, 「Before and after the Launch」, 「The Frailty」and 「Humanitarian」. Rather, after the bolt, his writings took on a realistic maturity in that he did not intentionally draw a conclusion of the eventual advent of proletarian dominance, while paying attention to realistic problems.
