오문반환(澳門返還) 10년의 회고(回顧)와 전망(展望)에 관한 연구(硏究) = Study of Retrospection and prospect on 10 years of Macao`s return to the Chinese motherland

This essay aims to analyze the past, present and future of Macao as it celebrated the 10th anniversary of its return to China in Dec, 2009. As known to all, in the economic realm, Macao enjoyed some developments. On the contrary, it still has inherent political problems to solve. This demonstrates that Macao is not fully integrated into China. In 1999 China reacquired the sovereignty rights of Macao based on its One nation, two systems policy and acquiesce its capitalist economic system. On the surface, Macao`s sinozation looks realizing, however, it still possesses negative aspects and problems to be overcome. To be more specific, they are as follows: First, will the process of realizing One nation, two systems policy be smooth?; Second, will the Chinese central government be willing to accept Macao`s democratization issue the way the Macao people demand?; Third, do Macao people think their identity as Chinese?; Forth, is Macao`s sinozation without problems?; Fifth, is China`s perception of Macao changing? From these perspectives, the study attempts to make a prospective analysis on the future of Macao through the review of the past 10 years hisotry of Macao. For this end, the essay first reviews the historical background of Macao`s return and the peculiarities of Macao. Based on the observation, it will study the illusion and true aspect of One nation, two systems policy with Macao`s case. To substantiate the findings, it will also analyze Macao people`s perception structure. In addition, it will also study the positive aspects and present Macao`s problems from the past 10 years. Lastly, the implications to Korea will be examined.
