The purposes of this study were to examine the degree of
burnout among vocational instructors at the vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled and explore the influences of individual characteristic, job stress, client characteristic, and social support factors on their burnout. It also aimed to search for ways to deal with and prevent the burnout properly and offer basic data to provide the disabled with high quality service of vocational rehabilitation. For those purposes, the following research questions were set:
First, what is the degree of the burnout of vocational instructors at vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled?
Second, what are the differences in burnout of vocational
instructors at vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled according to their individual characteristic factors?
Third, what kind of relationship is there between the job stress factors and the burnout of vocational instructors at vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled?
Fourth, what kind of relationship is there between the client characteristic factors and the burnout of vocational instructors at vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled?
Fifth, what kind of relationship is there between the social
support factors and the burnout of vocational instructors at
vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled?
Sixth, which factors affect the burnout of vocational instructors at vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled?
The survey was taken among the entire population of vocational instructors working at 360 vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled across the nation for about two weeks from June 14 to 25, 2010. A total of 360 questionnaires were faxed to the subjects, and 153 were returned, which means the return rate was 42%. After excluding three that were deemed not to be proper, a total of 150 questionnaires were used in final analysis.
Gathered data were put to frequency analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, t-test, One-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis through the SPSS/WIN 12.0 program.
The analysis results can be summarized as follows:
First, the vocational instructors had a lower level of burnout perception than normal.
Second, there were statistically significant differences in their burnout according to age, educational background, and marital status of individual characteristic factors, and no statistically significant differences were found according to gender and career.
Third, there were positive correlations between the role conflict and the role ambiguity of the job stress factors and burnout, which means the higher role conflict and the ambiguity the vocational instructors had, the more burnout they experienced.
Fourth, there were negative correlations between the client
characteristics and the burnout. That is, the better relationships the vocational instructors had with their clients, the less burnout they experienced.
Fifth, there were negative correlations between the family, friend, colleague, and supervisor support of the social support factors and the burnout. In other words, the more family, friend, colleagues, and supervisor support they had, the less burnout they experienced.
Finally, the role conflict, the workload, and the role ambiguity of the job stress factors turned out to be affecting their burnout, which means the more role conflict, workload, and role ambiguity they had, the more burnout they experienced.

In short, the factors that had the biggest impacts on the burnout of vocational instructors at vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled are the job stress factors such as the role conflict, the workload, and the role ambiguity, which implies that the burnout of vocational instructors for the disabled can be prevented by the clear definition of their roles, the provision of the support from human resources for their heavy workload, and the establishment
of the clear job regulations to reduce the role ambiguity.
