廣域中心都市에 있어서의 經濟的 中樞管理機能의 實態 = Central Economic Management Function in Regional Capital Cities

The research puts emphases to identify boundaries of metropolitan cities, their economic statuses, and economic an management functions of metropolises, such as Taegu, Incheon, Kwangju, and Taejon which are planned as broad metropolitan centers in the national physical development planning scheme.
Control management functions of metropolises are analyzed in criteria of headquarters of business firms which control and manage their branches in nationwide. This research measures intensity of control and management functions of metropolises and classifies hierarchies. arrangements, and regularities of their economic activities. Major findings of the research are :
1) Comprehending the ratio intensity of business headquarters to metropolises' population, the headquarters are shown positive correlations with the size of the cities, an business branches are highly centralized in Seoul and Pusan, but not much in Incheon. Kwangju and Taejon.
2) In the analyses of branches of firms in six metropolises in korea, manufactures, finances, and insurances occupy high rate 89 percent and follow by trades and commerces. However, Seoul shows exceptionally high rate.
3) The intensity of central management functions of six major cities are calculated by the formula : (number of business headquarters×total disposal income of national urban centers) ＋(number of business branches×total disposal income of metropolitan region). The result reveals that Seoul runs far ahead of other metropolises, and ranks Pusan, Taegu, kwangju, Taejeon in order.
4) Statistics show high correlation in the intensities of central management functions and economic activities of the regions. Those represent well the characteristics of metropolis such as 0.701 in wholesale market prices, 0.882 in office workers(white collar jobs), and 0.981 in populations.
5) In short, the concentration of centralized management functions (headquarters and branches) which progresses toward metropolises is understood in a line with the business domination of large firms over the nation wide by allocating their branches to establish national networks. Accordingly, centralized structure of metropolises is mainly relied on the accessibility and mobility of Seoul and Pusan, and complexed factors such as economic climate and competitions of urban centers of the metropolises.
