Scope and Method of Study;
The Graduates of agricultural high schools were not sufficient in the ability in establishment of farming, management of farm, and lack of farming skills in Korea. The writer could say that inadequate supervised farming practice in their school days is one of the main reason of the problem.
A. The purpose of this study were to;
1. Summarize the present situation concerned with the supervised farming program in agricultural high schools in Korea.
2. Make suggestions for improving the supervised farming program for training skilled and experienced prospective farmer in agricultural high schools in Korea. While these recommendations are particularly applicable to the agricultural high schools and they may also be of value to principals and teachers of vocational agriculture.
B. Survey method
Data were collected by sending questionaires to the fifty principals which were straified to the nine group and then random sampled among a hundred and fourty three agricultural high schools, another data were collected by sending questionaires to the teachers of vocational agriculture those who participated in the in-service training program from all over the country in the summer of 1965. The writer made individual visits to farms and schools for survey and interviews. All data obtained through this study was treated so that overall trends throughout the country could be estimated.
Findings and Recommendations;
1. It is recommended that the various departments (Agronmy, Forest, Animal Science, Horticulture, Sericulture, Agricultural Manufacturing, Agricultural Civil engineering, Agricultural Cooperation, Agricultural Home Economics) in the agricultural high schools should be reorganized to only the department of agriculture for learning overall agriculture problems as the student's needs and interest so that the students can take any subject of courses which is concerned to agriculture by their needs.
2. The students of agriculture high school must be a believer in the agriculture
program and have the initiative to carry it out. The boy of favour to the agriculture occupation in the future after his graduation from the school could be permitted to enroll inspite of decrease number of sutdents.
3. School farm practice should be reconsidered and be improved from the farm
management practice to the unit problem solving procedure practice.
4. Supervised farming practice program on the school farm should be planned with the participation of students to organize the program for the needs and interest of the boys. Evalution of the program also be evaluated with the boys.
5. It is recommended that the school farm be managed for unit farm, experimental farm, exhibit farm, and management farm which is mostly performed by agricultural high schools. But the more size of the unit farm should be secured than present situation. The income of the school farm should be re-invested for the students farm practice by the decision of principal.
6. It is recommended that the farm practice class is scheduled consentratively in the afternoon and the hour unit is recommended to a hundred minutes under the
consideration of the age of students and the nature of school farm practice.
7. It is recommended that the analysis of the practice unit and the course of study should be made for the boys for necessary fundamental farming ability. The results of analysis is organized to the punch card system for better active participation and evalution of the boys.
8. It is recommended that the instruction of the agriculture should be held at the classroom which is known good environment phisically and emotionally. This principle could develop the best study atmosphere for the well educated future farmer.
9. The boys should leaded for securing attitude to have a technical, scientific,
practical knowledge and the financial ability at the supervised farming practice.
10. The boys and a teachers of agriculture must have certain decisions to make, as well as properly dressed, adequately provided farming tools.
11. It is recommended that a teacher of agriculture must keep abreast of the changes in his work through professional improvement activities; participation in-service training program and meeting, visiting outstanding farmers in the community, listening to the radio program and providing agricultural reference and materials.
12. It is recommended that the teaching load of the teachers of agriculture should be decreased to assist the development of boys' individual farming projects, additional pay should be paid for this activity. A teacher of agriculture is recommended to have his own farm if possible. Since the management of farm owned by the teacher help him to find practical problems and skills for the better instruction of agriculture.
13. It is recommended that the transfer of teachers of agriculture from one to another school should be eliminated as possible for becoming familiar with the specific, physical, chemical characteristics of the soil in the school farm and other various facts related to the farming.
14. A principal, a vice principal of agricultural high school is desired to place by the man ?? strong conviction to the agricultural education ?? active administrative assistant could be made to the teacher of agriculture.
15. It is recommended that administrative, financial and technical guidance and
assistant a boy to organize the Future Farmers of Korea which will have many
opportunities to develop the farming ability for the prospective farmer. Individual supervised home farming project should be developed to extend all boys in the school. Future Farmers of Korea activity is desired active contribution of boys with well experienced specialist. The activities of the organization should be guided by the experienced, well qualified teachers of agriculture.
