한국어 교육을 위한 응답표현 연구 = A Study on Responding Expressions for Korean Language Education

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to suggest basic teaching materials for responding expressions in the Korean language education. This study analyses features in both form and usage aspect of responding expressions which are used in Korean language textbooks as well as drama scripts as semi-spoken corpus.
Chapter 1 presents the purpose and necessity of responding expressions research and account for in details the subjects and methods of this study. In order to compare the similarities and differences in expressions between Korean language textbooks and the actual language usage, the research considers both Korean language textbooks and drama scripts as a research object. Considering the preceding studies and examining the direction of those studies, the necessity for research on Korean responding expressions was reaffirmed.
Chapter 2 defines the concept of responding expressions which has been used in various terms as well as discusses their characteristics. This chapter also examines the functions of meaning of responding expressions which can be classified into three categories - affirmative, negative and neutral responding expressions.
Chapter 3 analyses features in form and usage aspect of responding expressions in Korean language textbooks. Among the different categories of responding expressions, both the affirmative responding expression ‘네’ and negative responding expression ‘아니요’ present high frequency in usage. In usage aspect, these two types of responding expressions are mainly used to express agreement or disagreement.
In terms of contrastive analysis with Korean language textbooks, Chapter 4 analyses the responding expressions used in drama scripts. According to the research, the affirmative responding expressions ‘예’ and ‘어’ are more frequently used in drama scripts than in Korean language textbooks. Furthermore, the meaning of refusal rate as usage aspect presented is much higher than Korean language textbooks.
Chapter 5 synthesizes the examined result of features in both form and usage aspect in Chapters 3 and 4. Therefore, this chapter presents the similarities and differences found between Korean language textbooks and drama scripts. Between the two research objects, both of them show that more than 70% of responding expressions are affirmative responding expressions. However, the results present differences between Korean language textbooks and drama scripts in the type, rate of use and usage aspect of responding expressions.
Chapter 6 summarizes the results and both the significance and limitation of this study are stated.
