양적 분석 방법을 통한 한국 문학 연구의 확장 － 디지털 인문학의 동향 및 도전 과제 = Expanding the Study of Korean Literature through Quantitative Methods － Trends and Challenges in the Digital Humanities

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 디지털 전환(Digital turn) 이후 기술적 환경의 변화 속에서 한국문학 연구 영역의 확장 가능성들을 고찰하고자 한다. 양적 연구는 한국문학 연구에서 주로 수행되어 온 질적 연구를 보완하며 연구 영역을 확장할 수 있다는 점에서 주목할 필요가 있다. 디지털인문학은 양적 방법을 중심으로 네트워크 분석, 감정 분석, 잡지 분석 등 다양하게 한국문학 연구 영역을 확장하고 있다. 다만 문학성 또는 문학의 언어적 자질 등을 중심으로 한 문학 텍스트의 양적 분석은 충분히 수행되지 못하고 있다. 이 논문은 한국문학 텍스트를 양적으로 연구하기 위해 필요한 학술적인 고찰을 수행해 한국문학 연구의 확장을 위한 논의에 기여하고자 한다.
이를 위해 이 논문은 우선 양적 분석 방법에 관한 국내외 디지털인문학의 연구 동향을 분석한다. 특히 양적 연구 방법과 문학 연구의 접목이 언어 데이터의 활용이나 언어학과 문학의 접점을 탐색하는 지점에서 이루어지고 있음을 주목한다. 또한 양적 연구를 문학 연구에 접목하기 위해서는 그를 위한 실천적인 논의가 필요하다. 이 논문은 이를 위해 양적 변화에 따른 기존 문학 연구 개념의 재사유와 측정·실험·평가와 같은 구체적이고 체계적인 연구 방법의 확장, 문학 텍스트 분석을 위한 실질적인 방법의 개발과 공통 지표탐색이 필요하다고 제안한다.
이 논문은 디지털 기술의 발전과 한국문학 연구의 접목을 위한 핵심을 양적 연구와의 접목으로 파악해 현재의 디지털 인문학과 한국문학의 연구 동향을 점검하고 실천적인 도전 과제들을 논의한다는 점에 의의가 있다. 디지털인문학 연구는 데이터의 양적 축적만으로 수행되지 않는다. 양적 연구와 질적 연구, 문학과 언어학의 실천적인 교류 속에 한국문학 연구의 확장 가능성이 있으며, 앞으로 이러한 논의가 지속적으로 이루어질 필요가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper aims to examine the possibility of expanding the scope of Korean literature research in the changing technological environment following the digital transformation. It is important to note that quantitative research can complement and expand the qualitative research that has been primarily conducted in Korean literary studies. Digital humanities have broadened the field of Korean literature research through various quantitative methods, including network analysis, sentiment analysis, and magazine analysis. However, there has been insufficient quantitative analysis of literary texts that focuses on literary or linguistic characteristics. This paper seeks to contribute to discussions on expanding Korean literature research by conducting an academic review of the quantitative study of Korean literary texts.
To this end, this paper first analyzes research trends in digital humanities concerning quantitative analysis methods both domestically and internationally. In particular, it highlights that the integration of quantitative research methods with literary studies is occurring in areas such as the utilization of linguistic data and the exploration of intersections between linguistics and literature. Furthermore, the application of quantitative research to literary studies requires practical discussions. This paper argues that, in response to quantitative developments, it is necessary to reconsider existing literary research concepts, expand specific and systematic research methodologies such as measurement, experimentation, and evaluation, develop practical methods for analyzing literary texts, and identify common indicators.
This paper is significant in that it identifies the integration of quantitative research as a key aspect of connecting digital technology with Korean literature research, examines the current trends in digital humanities and Korean literature, and discusses practical challenges. Digital humanities research is not solely dependent on the quantitative accumulation of data. Rather, the exchange between quantitative and qualitative research, as well as between literature and linguistics, holds the potential for further expanding Korean literature research. It is crucial to continue such discussions in the future.
