디지털 기술문화 속의 e스포츠 장르의 확장, 디지털 스포츠 = Expansion of the eSports genre in the Digital technology culture

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 e스포츠가 게임 장르가 아니라 인간움직임과 디지털 기술과의 협력 하에 실천되는 디지털스포츠로 이해되어야 함을 연구하는데 있다. 우선 게임 장르로 구분되어 온 e스포츠는 게임 출시와 폐지에 따라서 새로운 e스포츠 종목으로 추가되기도 하고 사라지기도 한다. 이러한 측면에 대하여 게임과 e스포츠는 어떻게 다르게 이해되어야 하는지를 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 신체활동의 관여와 디지털 기술의 개입정도를 중심으로 e스포츠를‘디지털 스포츠’로서 재이해하고자 한다. e스포츠종목을 e스포츠 장르로서 이해한다는 것은 인간과 기술의 조화적 측면에서 신체활동과 디지털 기술의 관계를 중심으로 e스포츠를 디지털스포츠와 동일화하는 작업이다. 이러한 관점에서 크랜머(Cranmer, E. E., 2021)와 게벨러(Goebeler, L.,2021)의연구는 표준화된 기준을 가지고 디지털 스포츠의 장르를 구분할 수 있는 가능성을 보여주었다. 즉 크랜머는신체활동과 디지털 기술의 관계 안에서의 ‘디지털화된 스포츠’(Sport Digitalization), ‘다중참여 컴퓨터 게임’(Competitive Multiplayer Games), ‘디지털 강화 스포츠(Digitally Enhanced Sports), VR 활용 실감형 가상현실 스포츠(Immersive Reality Sports)로 분류하고 있으며, 크랜머는 신체적 요소와 디지털 기술의 혼종적 특성을 중심으로 디지털 보조 스포츠(Digitally Supported Sports), 디지털 증강 스포츠(Digitally Augmented Sports), 디지털 복제스포츠(Digitally Replicated Sports), 디지털 전환스포츠(Digitally Translated Sports)로써 디지털 스포츠의 종류를 구분하고 있다. 이러한 구분은 좀 더 세분화된 e스포츠 장르를 중심으로 안정적인 e스포츠문화의 발전 가능성을 보여주는 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to study that esports should be understood not as a game genre, but as digital sports practiced in cooperation with human movement and digital technology. First of all, esports, which have been classified as game genres, may be added or disappeared as new esports events according to the release and abolition of games. In this respect, it is necessary to look at how games and esports should be understood differently. This study attempts to reunderstand esports as 'digital sports', focusing on the degree of involvement in physical activity and digital technology. Understanding esports as a genre of esports is the work of equating esports with digital sports, focusing on the relationship between physical activity and digital technology in terms of harmony between humans and technology. From this point of view, the research of Cranmer (E.E., 2021) and Gebeller (Goebbeber, L., 2021) showed the possibility of distinguishing the genres of digital sports with standardized standards. In other words, Cranmer categorizes the relationship between physical activity and digital technology into 'Digitalized Sports', 'Competitive Multiplayer Games', 'Digitally Enhanced Sports', and 'Immersive Reality Sports' using VR. Cranmer categorizes the relationship between physical elements and digital technology into 'Digitally Supported Sports', 'Digitally Augmented Sports', 'Digitally Replicated Sports', and 'Digitally Transformed Sports'.
