현대시를 통한 ‘타자 이해’ 및 ‘환대’ 교육 연구 = A Study on “Understanding the Other” and “Hospitality” Education through Modern Poetry

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 문학교육에서 ‘타자 이해’와 ‘환대’ 교육이 이루어질 수 있다는 인식 아래, 그 가능성과 효용성을 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 고등학교 문학교육에 활용되는 현대시 제재를 연구 대상으로 선정하고, 레비나스의 ‘타자’ 윤리와 데리다의 ‘환대’ 철학을 이론적 근거로 삼아 분석하였다.
분석에 선행하는 작업으로 문학교육과 타자 환대 철학의 연계성을 탐색했다. 먼저 2015, 2022 개정 교육과정 총론에서 ‘공동체 의식’, ‘타인 존중’, ‘책임감’, ‘배려와 나눔’, ‘세계와 소통’ 등을 통해 환대 철학적 요소를 발견할 수 있었다. 그 리고 이러한 특성이 국어과 교육과정 성취기준에 ‘타자 이해’와 ‘공동체의 문제에 참여’ 등의 표현으로 구체화되어 있음을 파악했다.
2022 개정 교육과정에서 주목한 부분은, 이전 교육과정과 달리 위 가치들이 태도 함양 차원이 아니라 참여적 실천 행위로 연계된 점이다. 또한 ‘타자’ 관련 성 취기준이 고등학교뿐만 아니라 중학교에도 신설되었다는 점이다. 이러한 변화는 국가적⋅사회적 현안이 늘어난 상황에서 공동체가 처한 문제를 인식하고 참여와 협력을 통해 문제를 해결하는 일, 즉 타자 환대 가치가 더욱 중요해졌음을 시사한다. 이에 시의성을 고려하여 현대시 교육 제재에서 타자 환대 철학의 가치를 분석하고 문학교육의 방향을 모색하였다.
교육에 활용된 현대시에서 타자 환대 요소는 크게 세 가지로 구분하여 분석하였다. 먼저, 윤동주의 ｢병원｣과 이성복의 ｢서해｣를 탐색하면서 타자의 타자성을 훼손하지 않는 윤리를 발견했다. 다음으로, 탈경계적 인식이 드러나는 작품을 분 석하였다. 이주민과 정주민의 상호 연대를 그린 하종오의 ｢밴드와 막춤｣은 다문 화 시대의 환대를 구현하고 있었다. 한편, 교과서에 수록되지는 않았으나 탈경계 적 인식이 드러난 교육 텍스트로 유현아의 ｢절대 비밀 받아쓰기 2｣를 제안하고, 국가를 초월해 타자의 고통에 연대하는 내용을 분석하였다. 마지막으로, ‘타자의 부름에 응답하는 책임 윤리’의 가치를 환기하는 작품을 분석하였다. 정일근의 ｢점 심, 후회스러운｣이 타인의 고통에 무감한 주체의 반성적 성찰을 유도할 수 있다는 점과, 유현아의 ｢사람의 시｣가 실천으로써 환대하는 시라는 점에서 타자를 책 임지는 윤리를 나타낸다고 보았다. 이 여섯 작품은 “문학을 통해 타자를 이해하고 공동체의 문제에 참여하는 태도를 지닌다.”라는 교육과정의 성취기준을 구현한다는 점에서 문학교육적 의의를 지닌다.
본고는 우리나라 국어과 교육과정 문학 영역의 성취기준과 학습 목표에 드러난 타자 환대 철학의 양상을 분석하고, 현대시 교육 제재의 활용 방향을 제안했다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 또 환대로 나아가기 위한 현대시 읽기의 방향성을 제시하여 문학교육 연구에 기여하고자 하였다.

This study examined the potential and effectiveness of “understanding the other” and “hospitality” in literature education, recognizing that such teaching is achievable. To do this, we chose contemporary poetry texts used in high school education as our research subjects and analyzed them, using Levinas’s ethics of the “Other” and Derrida’s philosophy of “hospitality” as the theoretical basis.
As a preliminary step before this analysis, I examined the relation ship between literature education and the philosophy of hospitality. First, in the revised National Curriculum General Guidelines of 2015 and 2022, I identified elements of the philosophy of hospitality through concepts like “sense of community,” “respect for others,” “sense of re sponsibility,” “consideration and sharing,” and “communication with the world.” Furthermore, I found that these characteristics were reflected explicitly in the Korean language curriculum achievement standards, such as “understanding others” and “participation in community issues.”A notable feature of the 2022 revised curriculum is that, unlike earlier versions, these values are tied to participatory practices rather than just promoting attitudes. Additionally, “other”-related achievement standards have been introduced for both middle and high schools. These updates indicate that, amid increasing national and social issues, the importance of welcoming others—recognizing community challenges and addressing them through participation and cooperation—has become more vital. Given the relevance of this approach, we examined the significance of the philosophy of welcoming others in contemporary poetry education texts and considered future directions for literature education.
This study examined three key aspects of hospitality toward others in modern poetry used in education. First, by analyzing Yun Dong-ju’s “Hospital” and Yi Seong-bok’s “West Sea,” I identified an ethic that respects the other’s otherness. Then, I examined works that exhibit transnational awareness. Ha Jong-oh’s “Band and Makchum,” which depicts the mutual solidarity between immigrants and settled residents, embodies the concept of hospitality in the multicultural era. Meanwhile, although not included in textbooks, I suggested Yoo Hyun-ah’s “Absolute Secret Dictation 2” as an educational text that demonstrates going beyond borderline awareness. I analyzed its content, which transcends national boundaries and embraces solidarity with the suffering of others. Finally, I examined a work that highlights the importance of “the ethics of responsibility in responding to the call of others.” Jeong Il-geun’s “Lunch, Regrettable” can provoke reflective thinking in a person indifferent to others’ suffering, while Yoo Hyun-ah’s “Poem of a Person” demonstrates an ethics of responsibility for others, as a poem of hospitality practiced in action. These six works are important because they embody the curriculum’s achievement standard: “Develop an attitude of understanding others and participating in community issues through literature.”This paper is valuable because it examines the aspects of the philosophy of hospitality toward others found in the achievement standards and learning objectives of the literature section of the Korean language curriculum. It also suggests ways to utilize modern poetry education texts. Additionally, it aims to contribute to literature education research by offering a model for reading modern poetry that promotes hospitality.
