환경의식 고취를 위한 시각표현에 관한 연구 : 생태계 보존에 관한 poster제작을 중심으로 = Research on visual expression for stimulating environmental consciousness : Focusing on poster production about ecosystem preservation

국문 초록 (Abstract)

18세기 후반 산업혁명 이후 20세기에 들어서면서 진행된 인구증가, 산업화, 도시화 현상은 인류에게 환경파괴라는 새로운 문제를 던졌다. 이제 환경 문제는 어느 한 나라 한 지역의 문제가 아닌 전 인류의 생존이 걸려 있는 지구 전체의 문제로 인식되고 있다.
우리가 생활하고 있는 환경의 개념은 매우 포괄적이고 복잡하다. 환경을 생물을 둘러싸고 있는 것중 생물의 생활에 영향을 미치는 모든 것이라고 정의할 때, 환경 없이는 어떤 생물도 존재할 수 없을 것이다. 인간 또한 수많은 생물 중 하나로서 자연환경의 영향을 받는 존재이다. 그러나 인간의 무분별한 환경이용은 생태계의 항상성과 동적 균형을 파괴하게 되었고, 그 결과 인류의 생존까지 위협하게 되었다.
이러한 의미에서 지금은 환경보존에 대한 총제적인 참여와 노력이 절실한 때라고 생각된다. 따라서 본 연구는 환경의식을 고취시킬 수 있는 창의적이고 효과적인 시각표현을 그 목적으로 한다.
우선 문제해결을 위한 이론적 배경으로 환경문제의 제기, 환경과 인간의 관계, 생태계와 인간의 관계에 대해서 알아보았다. 또, 포스터의 개념과 종류, 그리고 사회계몽포스터에 관하여 살펴보았다. 그리고 환경문제 해결을 위한 디자인 활동의 사례들을 살펴보았다. 서구와 일본, 그리고 우리나라에서 진행된 환경보존을 위한 디자인 활동의 흐름과 그 경향을 분석하고, 커뮤니케이션 디자인의 사회적 역할에 대해서 생각해 보았다.
이러한 내용을 바탕으로 환경의식을 고취시키기 위한 시각표현을 전개하였다. 그리고 좀 더 명확한 문제해결을 위하여 범위를 좁혀 생태계 보존을 주제로 한 Poster를 제작하였다.
그 과정에서 커뮤니케이션의 전달방법상의 종류와 차이, 효과적인 커뮤니케이션 방법, 시각디자인의 기본원리 등에 대해 알아보았고 시각표현을 위한 다양한 시도와 실험을 반복하였다. 생태계의 다양한 요소들을 소재로 하여 색채와 질감으로 혼돈의 이미지, 불안감, 긴장감 등을 표현하였고 각 요소들을 합성하는 방법으로 파괴된 생태계와 보존의 희망, 파괴의 원인과 결과, 인간의 이중성 등의 다양한 연상이 가능하도록 했다.
본 연구를 통해 환경오염의 실태와 환경보호운동의 필요성에 대해 더욱 깊이 인식하게 되었고, 이러한 노력에 동참하는 다양한 디자인활동을 접할 수 있었다. 앞으로도 계속 환경문제에 관심을 갖고 다양한 표현방법을 연구해 나가고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Population growth, industrialization, urbanization going on since the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century through the 20th century casted human beings a new problem; environmental destruction. Now environmental issues are regarded not only as a country's problem but also as one of the entire earth which human beings' lives depend on.
The concept of the environment we live in is very comprehensive and very complicated. The environment is defined as all the things that surround and affect the lives of creatures. On the basis of this definition, no living things can do without the environment. Human being, as one of numerous living things, is affected by natural environment. Despite this fact, we, human beings, have misused the environment irrationally. As a result, ecological homeostasis and dynamic balance are devastated. In the end. we are confronted with threat of lives.
In this regard, it's time to take part in the environmental protection activity. Therefore, this study aimed at creative and effective visual expression that can inspire environmental consciousness.
First of all, I brought up the environmental problem as a theoretical background and then the relations between human beings and ecosystem. Also, I showed the examples of design activities for settling this serious problem. I analyzed the current and the tendency of design activities for environmental protection going on in the west, Japan and Korea. At last, I considered the social role of communication design.
On the ground of this content, I developed visual expression for inspiring the environmental consciousness. And for the more apparent settling of the problem, I produced posters on the subject of the environmental protection with the range narrowed down.
In this process I studied kinds and differences of expression methods, effective communication method and the principle of visual design, repeating various trials and experiments for the better visual expression. In the posters, I expressed images of chaos, instability and tension with the materials of diverse elements of ecology by colors and textures. By the method of compounding each element, readers could be variously reminded of the hope of preserving destroyed ecosystem, the cause and effect of destruction and dualism of human beings.
This research made me have a further understanding on the reality of environmental pollution and the need of environmental protection activity. It also enabled me to come to know various design activities concerned in these efforts. From now on I will study diverse ways of expression with the interest on environmental issues.
