다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The object of this study is to eximine the internal structure and the construction technics of Kum Hyang Chung Kwi through a comparison between the patterns of the work written in former ages and the trifurcate story structure of Kum Hyang Chung Kwi written in the latter half of the 19th century.
1. The story structure of a barrier to a matrimonial matter admits of the faith symbol motif of Ok Won Choong Hap Lok(옥원중합록) and the structure to be united in marriage by fate of the god-given faith symbol, but in this work the function of a faith symbol is developed from a medium function to a kernel function.
2. The story structure of choosing wives underlines the basic pattern of a choosing wives tale by sexual relations meeting and parting of Euk Mi Dang Ki(육미당기), but in this work the hero who were a transcendent hero is transformed into an ordinary man and the realms of the work is to be realistic.
3. The story structure of a jealousy tale mixes the narrative structure and the characters of Cho Saeng Won Cheon(조생원전) with the jealousy structure of Ok Roo Mong(옥루몽), but the writer changes the antagonistic aspect from the dual confrontation to the ternary confrontation and expresses that family trouble is placed on the responsibility of the family at large.
4. The writer mixes this fiction pattern with another popular one, and for the purpose of satisfying wide readers' wants to each pattern puts in suitably the illustrations of a furtive glance at a bridal room and a refusal for sleeping together and so on, and sets up the organic unity of this work. These illustrations play an important part in popular interest.
5. The writer create Sa-Deok(사덕) the unique character. From the viewpoint of the fact that Sa-Deok is a man of noble family, what he has a skeptical viewpoint that the common people feels about the controversial point of Confucian Feudalism and partriarchy is unique and funny.
6. A love entanglement between husband and wife is settled with their dialog nstead of confrontation and describeid realistically, and the realized women-consciousness is well brought out in this work, these are the points that have the appearance of a modern fiction.
Though the above examination we can say that Kem Hyang Chung Kwi(금향경긔) is an excellent work bringing to fruition of the classical fiction in 19th century. A problem awaiting solution is a study keeping in touch with the new-style fiction.
