教師の想定より深い結論に辿り着いたディスカッション授業の様相とその要因 ― ケースメソッド授業における教師のあり方 ― = Aspects and Factors of a Discussion Class that Reached a Deeper Conclusion than the Teacher Assumed: The Role of the Teacher in Case Method Classes

本研究では、ケースメソッド授業において、教師の想定を超え、より深い結論に至ったディスカッションの様相を明らかにし、その要因を分析することで、教師のあり方について考察した。 授業では、日本国内の中国人学部留学生15名を対象とし、そうじをしてくれないルームメイトBの問題を扱ったケース教材を用いて、個人課題、グループディスカッションの後、ロールプレイを用いたクラスディスカッションを行った。クラスディスカッションは逐語的に文字化した後、話題、小話題、学習者の発話の要約にラベルづけした上で、想定を超えた結論に至った部分及びその要因となる部分を抽出し、考察した。 想定を超えた結論に至ったのは、まとめの段階である。授業計画書では、一つの解決策に話がまとまると想定されていたが、ディスカッションでは、提示された23の解決策すべてが実現不可能となった。そして、Bと対話して相互理解を深めるという教育目的を超え、Bのような変える価値のない人間に自分の時間と労力をかける必要はない、Bは愛をもって自分を変えてくれる人に出会う必要があるという、より本質的な結論に至った。 そのような結論に至った要因を分析した結果、1)実現可能性を考えさせる教師の発言、2)軌道修正する教師の発言、3)沈黙を恐れない教師の態度、という三点が提示された。これらはすべて、教師による緻密な授業準備と関連しており、緻密な授業準備が、ディスカッションを深めるために重要となることが、具体的なデータとともに示された。

In this study, the role of the teacher in a case method class was examined by clarifying aspects of the discussion that led to a conclusion beyond the teacher's expectation and by analyzing the factors that led to such a development.
In the class, 15 Chinese undergraduate students in Japan read a case material dealing with the problem of roommate B, who never cleaned his room, and had an individual assignment, group discussions, and then a class discussion using a role-play. The class discussion was transcribed verbatim and labeled into topics, sub-topics, and summaries of the learners' utterances, and the parts that led to the unexpected conclusion and its factors were extracted and examined.
It was at the summary stage that the unexpected conclusions were reached. In the lesson plan, it was assumed that the conversation would come to a single solution, but in the discussion, all 23 solutions presented became unfeasible. Beyond the educational objective of deepening mutual understanding with B, the discussion went on to the more essential conclusion that there was no need to spend one's time and effort on a person like B who was not worth the effort to change him, and that B needed to meet someone who would change him with love.
After analyzing the factors that led to such a conclusion, three points were offered: 1) the teacher's comments that made the students think about feasibility, 2) the teacher's comments that steered the discussion back on course, and 3) the teacher's attitude of not being afraid to be silent. All of these factors were related to the teacher's detailed lesson planning, and concrete data showed that detailed lesson planning deepens discussion.
