제주도방언의 친족어 연구 -여성 화자를 중심으로 = Study on the Kinship terms of JeJu dialect - Focused on female speakers

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

There are many paternal side-oriented, male-oriented kinship terms in Korea compared to Jeju where the kinship terms used to paternal kins are also literally used to the distaff side, wife´s old home, and husband`s old home. It may result from that women are undereducated and are less influenced from Confucianism, but it could be a former relative system before the settlement of Confucian relative system. Among those kinship terms of JeJu dialect, the kinship terms for female speakers are classified into the terms of address and the terms of reference, and the semantic features called [±honorific],[±male] and[±familiarity] are selected to examine the characteristics of the kinship terms used by female speakers in Jeju. In case of the terms of address of JeJu dialect used by female speaker, [-honorific] terms are developed and there are many [+familiarity] terms. In the married life in Jeju area, people need not to form the immediate family and take care of in-laws, but they support themselves. Therefore the terms about sister-in-law or a brother- in-law also don`t use terms of respect but ordinary terms as for younger brother and sister. In the aspect of the use of kinship terms, men prefer the terms of Sino-Korean words while women mainly use Hangul kinship words using basic terms several secondary terms. Women construct and use compound words based on plain terms, that is, several basic terms to complete the kinship terms. Female speakers use the kinship terms of complicated relationship with the form arranging names of kinship, and those made kinship terms are only used as the terms of reference. The terms of address for [-male] mainly use the prefix ``Si-`` or are the titles native to female. These are only used as the terms of reference except the terms of address. And ``Chinjeong-`` meaning the maiden home of married women is also used only in the terms of reference. Regarding the terms of reference, there are many [-familiarity] expressions combining local name. Combination of a local name and a kinship term is used as terms of reference. It is originated from the mind of speakers who intend to simply memorize and speak the complex kinship and pragmatic spirit of Jeju women could be seen. In Middle Korean, in case of the kinship terms making reduction of meaning JeJu dialect has not been accomplish reduction of meaning yet. ``neot-`` means brothers of grandmother in a standard language while is used as the term of reference for bothers of grandfather in JeJu dialect. Also ``orabang`` in JeJu dialect is used to designate not only younger brother but elder brother, and it could be considered that reduction of meaning is not yet accomplished.
