It is well known that modern technological progress has extensive effects on the various :aspects of our society. Technology is not only one of the leading factors in social changes 'but also is deeply involved in the process of the change via the interactions with other factors. Even though technology develops at a very rapid pace, however, the resulting social change does not necessarily imply social development. In the light of this point of view, this study is intended to investigate the direction of changes in the Korean society and the family life problems associated with the changes as a result of technological progress oil the basis of technological determinism.
The focus of analysis is given to problems of family life as arc currently posed by the identified negative effects of technological progress. It is believed that concerns about the problems, the way to perceive them or raising the problems will constitute an important motive and energy on which the future would heavily rely.
In this study, the family is treated as a socio-economic system pursuing satisfaction of needs by its members. In this system family members have the objectives $lt;.$gt;f surviving, personal development, and creation of living cultures. Therefore, this study approaches the problems of the modern households from the aspect of household works and resource management.
The first part of this study delves into the identity of human being in the industrial society. The second part discusses raison d'e⌒tre of the family by emphasizing its functions from the anthropological view point. This part is followed by a discussion oil the problems facing the family life due to technological progress in this industrial society from the view point of social value, socialization of household work, and resource management.
The rapid social change resulting from rapid technological progress requires each family to have a good understanding of the changing environment. On the basis of this understanding, each family needs to be equiped with proper knowledge and capability of mustering means to achieve family objectives. This is possible only through incessant education on. family life.
