일본헤이안시대(日本平安時代)에 있어서의 여류문학연구(女流文學硏究) -『겐지모노가타리(源氏物語)』의 미적화권(未摘花卷)을 중심으로- = A Study on Wonman Literature in the Age of Japanese Heian -With Focus on the Volume “Suetsumuhana” of “Gengimonokadari”-

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study was intended to inguire into the 6th Volume, ‘Suetsumuhana’, “Gengimonokadari” with a focus on Mybu`s role, Tonochujo`s role, Hikaru-Gengi`s psychology, etc. Princess Suetsumuhana, the female protagonist of this volume, is the introspective and who does not only have any modern sense but not worldly-wise. In addition, she is portrayed as an ugly woman in appearance. Daihunomyobu play many active parts in the process that Gengi, the young noble of the day comes to approach the princess. The volume insinuates that the princess attracts Gengi, the protagonist, on the one hand and she is the figure who is not equal to his partner by disparaging her. Such a role of Myobu exerts not a few influence on Gengi. At last, he come to know that she has the unattractive and ugly apperance and is surprised to know the fact. He sometimes agonizes over the princes in consideration of her status, but he comes to accept their union at a fateful dimension. Thus he comes to take pitieous and sympathetic care of her and provide economic help for her. A series of Gengi`s speech and conduct makes a good representation of the ideal masculine image of the day. It is thought that it is the very this point that its writer intends to present. in this volume. Though Suetsumuhana may be fairly ugly enough to be deserted by a man, she is not deserted by Gengi. This point is thought to bring about the effect of highlighting Gengi as the picture of the masculine image with greaten strength. In conclusion, the personality of introspection and reticence of princess Suetsumuhana, the female protagonist of this volume, required Myobu`s active part. The appearance of Tonochujo was required to rekindle the jeolous competitiveness of Gengi against Tonochujo, The appearance of those two characters became a great facilitator in forming the relationship of Gengi and the princess. It can be thought that agony, conflict and the like arising in Gengi`s mind made a great contribution to idealizing the character of Gengi to the religious level.
