4차 산업혁명 기술을 적용한 국내 양식업 발전방향에 관한 연구 = A study on the development direction of domestic aquaculture industry by applying the 4th industrial revolution technology
Today, the global fishing industry is witnessing a decrease in deep-sea fishing production due to the depletion of fishery resources and the strengthening of international standards in the fishing industry. On the other hand, the production of the aquaculture industry is steadily increasing, gaining attention as an industry that provides alternatives to insufficient food resources.
On the contrary to such trend of growth, the aquaculture industry in Korea is for small quantity batch production, labor-intensive, and based on the traditional farming techniques depending on individual experience, which results in environmental issues such as the deterioration of water quality due to excessive breeds and feed and the degradation of ecological systems caused by water pollution around aquafarms because of diseases.
This study tried to find solutions to the problems from the technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which has recently been highlighted worldwide. The world’s leading aquaculture countries such as Norway and Denmark, for example, are spearheading the Fourth Industrial Revolution of the aquaculture industry based on their advanced aquaculture industry. In Korea, however, the industry, being recognized as the primary industry, is still in its infancy.
Against the backdrop, this study aims to analyze aquafarm cases based on the aquaculture technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution at home and abroad to identify problems related to the application of aquaculture production technology and seek for improvement plans for the production system of the sustainable aquaculture industry.
In order to achieve the purpose more effectively, this study performed a literature review, a statistical data analysis, and a case analysis.
As a result of analyzing aquafarms built on the technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution at home and abroad, the fact that there are few data bases that can be used for convergence, which is one of the features of the technology, is a limitation. It was also found that the Korean aquaculture market is too small and focused on the small quantity batch production system to employ advanced aquaculture technology. In addition, the technology has not been applied or utilized since the current aquaculture technology has been developed by IT companies.
In order to solve above problems, the production system of the sustainable aquaculture industry should be improved as follows:
First, it is required to create the big data of the aquaculture industry, which is the premise for the establishment of the basis of the Fourth Industrial Revolution for the aquaculture industry and technological development, so as to leap forward to the intelligence phase based on artificial intelligence technology for smart aquafarming and to achieve convergence with the fishing industry in the future.
Second, since it costs a large amount of money to install equipment in the initial stage, it is necessary to expand the aquaculture industry for large-scale capital investment to introduce advanced aquaculture technology.
Third, it is necessary to organize a joint research and development system to develop the aquaculture technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and deploy and distribute the advanced technology in more practical ways.
Fourth, efforts should be made to continuously nurture high-quality human resources who can utilize and apply the advanced technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
As a result of conducting the case analysis of the application of the technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to the aquaculture industry in Korea by identifying individual problems and improvement measures, the ultimate solution was found to be scaling up the aquaculture industry. This is because it is possible to develop a big data and a market applied with aquaculture technology built on the big data by expanding the aquaculture industry.
