코로나, 코스모스, 코이노니아 : 공동서신을 통해 본 복음, 교회의 본질과 기독교교육적 함의 = Corona19, Cosmos, and Koinonia : A Response from the Catholic Epistles with its Reinterpretation of the Gospel and the Nature of the Church, and the Implications for the Christian Education.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The corona-19 pandemic, did not created but exposed the weakest areas of the Korean churches. First, the shocking growth of the heresy Sincheonji(新天地) proves that the Korean church has neglected the eschatological nature of the Kingdom Gospel while pursuing some distorted secular version of it. Second, the issue of the ‘face-to-face’ or ‘non face-to-face’ worship raised a serious question as to what the church really is - the building or the saints? Third, the misbehaviour of few churches and some institutions related to the church augmented the hostility toward the church by the majority of the citizens in our society.
The three incidents illustrated above demonstrate the unavoidable fact that the Korean churches are severly facing the cosmos(‘world’). To overcome this kind of challenge, some theoretic approaches such as the Christian world-view movement or public theology, though helpful, would fail to reach out to the average members of the church. It is the living word of God, the Scripture, that creates the church. The vision and strategies must be preached from the pulpit to the saints in their daily life situations. The Catholic Epistles is the cannonical collection that suits this critical and urgent need for the church facing the world. The Catholic Epistles can provide the reinterpretation of the Gospel, the nature and shape of the church and the integral strategies and guidelines for Christian education as well, especially for the ‘church facing the cosmos.’
However, at this stage of the matter, we need to switch the gear for the cannonical expansion within the Scripture, from Pauline corpus to Catholic Epistles. As the neglected part of the New Testament canon, the Catholic Epistles can contribute to the Korean church in her overcoming the Cosmos. While the Pauline presentation of the Gospel can be seen as the outcome from the Apostle Paul’s struggling and debating with the ‘Judaism’, the Catholic Epistles as the outcome from the Apostles of Jerusalem struggling and overcoming the cosmos, ‘Rome’ at that time.
Therefore, the Korean church, severely facing the world after corona19 outbreak, can find the suitable strategies from the Catholic Epistles in which the ‘koinonia with the Triune God’ marks the climax of its theology. From this ‘koinonia’, overflows altogether the divine character-building (2 Peter), doing good works from renewed conscience (1 Peter) and the wisdom from above (James). Furthermore, the critical elements of the ‘koinonia’ provide some refreshing clues to the Christian education in the areas of knowledge, character, and competency.
