호남문화예술 연구의 성과와 전망 = Achievements and Prospects for Culture and Art of the Honam Study Research Institute

This study reviewed the achievements in culture and art published through the Honam Study Research Institute and speculated on its meaning and prospects. For this study, culture and art areas were classified as architecture, art, music, cultural content, festivals, banquets, and other forms. More importance was placed on research in architecture and art, followed by that on cultural content and festivals. 『Honam Culture Study』, a journal published by the Honam Study Research Institute and 『Emotional Study』, a collection of articles by the Emotional Study Team included a total of 440 articles which were published over the past 50 years and 69 volumes of the Honam Culture Book. Of these, a total of 65 (or 15%)were related to culture and art, and 6(9%) were in separate volumes. Such achievements fell behind the fame of Honam as a hometown of culture and art, but some of the articles were characteristic. The trend in the study on culture and art is changing from basic study such as data collection and analysis to secondary study using basic studies such as marketing. Although it has meaning in terms of the use of study results, it is a sorry thing that the weight of event-type cultural study is greater than that of intensive study. There have not been many study results in culture and art. The results by the Honam Study Research Institute are not absolute indexes to understand the study levels in Honam, but the number of research papers, the continuity of publication, and the diversity of areas are below the expectation in comparison with its fame as a hometown of culture and art. This is because of a lack in specialized researchers who study culture and art in the Honam area. The content of research was confined to the section dealing with Honam culture as there are few researchers, and research was not continuous or organized. For more organized and continuous investigational research, specialized human resources and institutional systems should be developed.
