다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Translation of a work of literature, often said to be impossible, has been accepted as necessay and continues to flourish in the world community of different cultures. This may be because, as Song has already mentioned it, the proper appreciation of a literary work is a matter of degree rather than an absolute entity.
This paper attempted to describe some of the inherent and essential problems - in terms of style. rhythm and nuance as well as form and meaning - concerned with the translation of some Korean literary works into English together with some modest suggestions for their solution.
Since the two languages belong to different language families along with different cultural backgrounds, it is almost impossible to give a satisfactory translation of Korean literary works into English
The writer of the Paper attempted to find out some modest solution to the problem with the translation by suggesting some devices of translation through analyzing and arranging those devices adopted by several professional translators working either inside or outside the country.
Some noteworthy devices frequently used are found out to literal translation, partial deletion of the original, supplementary addition to the original, partial or complete substitution of the original, and paraphrasing. And some principles that the translator should abide by in translation are : (1) the translator should choose and order words or phrases to produce the correct tone ; (2) the translator should fully understand the sense or meaning of the SL author ; (3) the translator should have a perfect knowledge of both SL and TL.
