현대 돌봄 논의와 돌봄 영성 = Contemporary Discourses on Care and the Spirituality of Care

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대 사회는 돌봄 위기의 심화와 초고령 사회로의 이행 속에서 돌봄의 개념을 신체적·물질적 차원을 넘어 정서적·영적 차원까지 확장해야 할 필요에 직면하고 있다. 돌봄은 단순한 사회적 책임이나 윤리적 행위를 넘어 인간 존재의 본질적 특성인 관계성과 공동체성을 드러내는 핵심 개념이며, 기독교 영성에서도 중요한 주제가 된다. 본 연구는 현대 돌봄 논의를 검토하고, ‘돌봄 영성’ 탐구를 통해 기독교 공동체의 돌봄 이해의 신학적 기초와 실천적 모델을 탐구한다.
이를 위해 본 논문은 돌봄 윤리와 사회적 돌봄이 제기하는 논점을 살펴보고, 보건 의료 분야에서 주목받고 있는 영성 통합적 돌봄의 의미를 논의한다. 최근 사회적 돌봄에 관한 논의가 주로 구조적·정책적 접근에 중점을 두었다면, 본 연구는 돌봄의 본질적 요소인 공감, 관계성, 상호 돌봄의 가치를 조명하며, 기독교 공동체가 돌봄 실천에서 감당해야 할 신학적 사명과 실천적 방향성을 모색한다. 특히 본 연구는 기독교 역사 속에서 이루어진 돌봄 사역을 분석하며, ‘영적 돌봄’의 신학적 의미를 탐색하고, 더 나아가 현대 교회가 ‘영적 돌봄을 실천하는 공동체’로 자리매김해야 한다는 점을 강조한다.
본 논문은 돌봄이 하나님의 형상을 따라 창조된 인간 존재의 본질을 구현하는 과정임을 밝히고, 기독교 영성이 돌봄 사회로의 전환 속에서 기여할 수 있는 대안적 역할을 제시한다. 또한 돌봄이 관계적이고, 공동체적인 인간의 영적 본성에 기반한다는 것을 상기하면서 기독교 공동체는 하나님의 사랑을 실천하는 구체적 방식이 되는 돌봄 실천을 위한 돌봄 영성의 이론적. 실천적 모델을 제시한다. 따라서 본 연구는 현대 돌봄 담론과 기독교 영성을 통합적으로 고찰하며, 돌봄 영성이 오늘날 사회적·신학적 차원에서 어떻게 적용될 수 있는지에 대한 이론적·실천적 모델을 제시하는 데 기여하고자 한다.

In the context of an escalating care crisis and the transition to a super-aged society, contemporary discussions on care must extend beyond its physical and material dimensions to encompass emotional and spiritual aspects. Care is not merely a social responsibility or an ethical practice but a fundamental concept that reveals the intrinsic relationality and communal nature of human existence. This theme is also a central theological concern within Christian spirituality. This study examines modern discourses on care and explores the “spirituality of care” to investigate the theological foundations and practical models of care within Christian communities.
To this end, this paper reviews key debates within care ethics and social care while analyzing the significance of “spiritually integrated care,” which has gained increasing attention in healthcare discourse. While recent discussions on social care have primarily focused on structural and policy-oriented approaches, this study highlights essential elements such as empathy, relationality, and mutual care. It further examines the theological mission and practical direction that Christian communities should embrace in their caregiving practices. In particular, this study explores the historical trajectory of Christian caregiving, investigates the theological meaning of “spiritual care,” and emphasizes the need for the contemporary church to establish itself as a “community that practices spiritual care.” This paper argues that caregiving is a means of embodying the Imago Dei, the divine image in humanity, and that Christian spirituality offers an alternative framework for contributing to the transformation toward a care society. Furthermore, it underscores that care is rooted in the relational and communal dimensions of human spiritual nature. Based on this premise, Christian communities must regard caregiving as a concrete expression of divine love and establish both a theological and practical model for the spirituality of care. By integrating contemporary care discourse with Christian spirituality, this study offers a theoretical and applied model for how the spirituality of care can be effectively incorporated into both theological and social contexts.
