생활수준의 변화와 사회분위기가 직무수행에 미치는 영향 = The Social Psychological Influences of Social Climate on Job Performance

Productivity is the combined result of both technological factors and human factors. Although technological factor becomes necessary condition for productivity increase, it may not become sufficient condition for productivity increase. Productivity is not only determined by the machines and technical instruments but also largely affected by the work ability and job performance of individual workers. Besides the levels of techniques and skills used, the level of productivity of the same kind of machines is to a great degree different with the socio-cultural differences of the country where they are used. The work ability and job performance of the workers are usually influenced by the socio-cultural conditions and the level of economic living standards as well.
The work ability is the product of both talent and learning efforts. The learning processes include various stages of formal education and vocational training programs, work experiences, etc. The level of education is usually influenced y both the degree of parental aspiration for education for their children and their income level as well. Although the working ability of an individual is very important to productivity, the strong motivation for work is also important to increase productivity.
The motivation for work may be influenced by various socio--cultural factors as well as the basic human needs. The motivation for work is in general most strongly stimulated to meet the basic needs. However, once satisfied needs are no longer effective to motivate job performance. Until recently, the Korean workers were widely known as most disciplined and diligent people in the world in order to meet the basic needs. However, the satisfied needs with the increased level of economic living standards seem to have been no longer affecting motivation further for job performance. Besides the effects of the satisfied needs, the job performances of the employed workers are negatively influenced by the societal atmosphere, i.e., the social psychological aspects of the people's perceptions about the social injustice and the social structure of inequality, partly due to the side effects of the means and processes to achieve the rapid growth of economy.
For better job performance and productivity improvement at the business level, on the one hand, attention has to be paid more on the improvement of the working environment and the democratization of the business management to induce the voluntary participation of a wide range of the employees beyond a sheer increase of the wage. At the societal level, on the other hand, an over-all institutional reformation should be preceeded on the basis of the socially consented policy direction, and implemented under the principle of social justice and equity with the determination of the leaderships at the top decision-making level.
