해방공간에서의 중도정당에 관한 연구 = A Study on the middle-of-the road Parites the Immediately After Korean Liberation

This study is concerned primarily with a middle of-the road parties a specific period－from the Korean liberation in 1945 to the eve of the establishment Korea government in 1948. After gaining independence from Japan, Korean peninsula divided South and North Korea along the 38th parallel and became the ideological diffusion and political vacuum. At that time, ideological spectrum developed over the left-right and the middle-of-the road politics. My purpose is to take a look at a middle-of-the road parties of the Lyuh Woon-hyung's the Korean "People's Party and Kim Ku's the Korean Independence Party.
When the downfall of Japan, Lyuh Woo-hyung had organized a secert grop and Konguk Chunbi Wiwon Hae in 1945. This time, the split between right and left wings accelerated the disintegration of the Lyuh's organization. So he reorganize a new political party called Kunro Inmin Tang. This party was fairly moderate and a middle-of-the road. But it was also failled by the attack of the ultra left and right. Whil, Kim Ku, Chairman of the Provisional Government, orgarnized the Korean Independence Party which had been of the strongholds moderate righties. After liberation, Kim Ku thought that the election proposed by Rhee Syngman's rightist would act to perpetuate the division of Korea. He acquiesced in the Rhee's separate southern election and initiated proposal for a Joint Conference of political leaders from North and South. But Kim's project failled dismally, because of the program for unification was more idealistic than realistic.
Ultimately, in the course of this study, the reason of the failure of the two parties will be offered the following three things.
1. Because of the fundamentally different nature of the two powers(Soviet and U.S), Korean unification is very difficult.
2. The middle-of-the-roaders was decreased as opportunists by both extremes (left and right)
3. The two parties depend entirely upon personal authority in stead of institutionalization of the system.
