Dong-Moon-Seon, anthology written in the Yi dynasty Period, contains 36 pieces of invocation called "chung-Sa." This word is not well known. The invocation "Chung-Sa" was written in the ritual place performing a religious service. "Chung-sa" was derived from the red characters written on the blue paper. The fact that 36 pieces of "Chung-Sa" were contained in Dong-Moon-Seon, is the definite evidence the Taoistic service was performed formally. The writers of "Chung-Sa" are all of the early Yi dynasty period, except six men of Goryeo dynasty. According to the fact, we can find that the Taoistic ritual service was performed from the Goryeo dynasty till the early Yi dynasty. The twelve pieces of invocation written by Chi-Won Choi, a scholar of Goryeo dynasty, was not named "Chung-Sa," but entitled"Jea-Sa." This title is different from that of "ChungSa," but the matter is the same as that of "Chung-Sa." So these as well as "Chung-Sa" are dealt in this article equally.
Among twelve pieces of "Jea-Sa" by chi-Won-Chor, three pieces are "Eung-Chun-Jul Jae-Sa"(invocations for Emperor's birthday) and the others are those for the seasonal galadays as "Sam-Won-Jul Jae-Sa." The former were conglatulation for the birthday of Hei-Chong, the king of Tang Dynasty, so these were written in 878∼884 AD. These celebrate the King's birthday and pray for his happiness without three misfortunes(lots of fear, work, and disgrace), and wished for the peaceful country celebrating a good harvest and clearing off a ghostly air. Further, these pray for returning of the evacuated government to the-capitat Chang-An after Whang-So's rebel being put down and performing the religious service to the Creator(thee supreme God of Taoism on Mt. Tae. "Sam-Won-Jea-Sa"(invocation for the seasonal galadays) is an invocation observing the Taoism ritual. Its matter begins with explaining Tao---They aspire after To without devoting themselves to their study because they interested in everyday matters. And these pray for a fruitul crap accompanying with good weather, wish for ceasing the war, and entreat Emperor's health and all governmental offcials' bless. As for individuals, by the means of attaining Taoism well, he wishes for communicating with the fairyland.
"Chung-Sa" is divided into celebration "Chung-Sa" as "Sam-Won-Cho-Rae Chung-Sa"(the invocation for the seasonal galadays) and "Tan -Ⅱ-Cho-Rae Chong-Sa"(the invocation for Emperor's birthday), and "Chung-Sa" keep off misfortunes as "Jae-Aek-Kee-Yang-Ch0-Rae Chung-Sa." The celebration "Chung-Sa" explains the profound Tao, which is named after the invisible, the inaudible, and the untouchable: that is Cod(the Creator of Taoism). We pray to God earnestly. We did not seize a golden opportunity without utilizing the five elements (appearance, speech, sight, hearing, and thought) of Hong-Bum, but now we perform the religious service neatly building an altar and pray to God for offering Tao's virtue: entreat health, bless, a good hearvest, and the peaceful country without thief and war.
"Jae-Aek-Kee-Yang Chung-Sa"(the invocation for keeping off misfortunes) prays to God for controlling calamities beyond man's capacities. Although the calamities is due to the virtueless king, this "Chung-Sa" prays to God for His mercy to keep off the calamity from his poor people.
And the writers of "Chung-Sa" are all Confucians, not Taoists. Consequently, there is no finding the profound Taoism in "Chung-Sa." "Chung-Sa" only rhetoric used in Chin-Rae as a kind of royal ritual.
Later, I will try to study writers of "Chung-Sa" and Confirm the date of writing "Chung-Sa," research the background(in the case of "Jae-Aek-Lee-Yang"(the invocation to keep off misfortunes), astronomy and the historical evidence of calamities), and analyze the specifific rhetorio of "Chung-Sa."
