This study arranged the process of Baekje performing diplomacy with China to restore its fallen royal authority after its Hanseong was captured by Goguryeo in the early days of Woongjin period. It also examined how it utilized the office and peerage titles it earned in the process for domestic politics. Baekje's ties with the Southern Dynasties in China were severed after its Hanseong fell
during the reign of King Gaero. Ascending the thrown following King Gaero, King Munju tried to resume its diplomatic relations with the Southern Dynasties
first while promoting the stability of domestic politics. It was the safest defense measure to protect the country at that time. His attempt, however, failed due to Goguryeo's hindrance. It was during the reign of King Dongseong that it
reestablished its ties with the Southern Dynasties, in which process he asked for the grant of office and peerage titles from the dynasties.
King Dongseong made use of the office and peerage titles earned through diplomacy with the Southern Dynasties for the sake of domestic politics, and it was the king and prince system. Having a weak position in the nation, he placed utmost importance on the Baekje-friendly diplomatic network and implemented the king and prince system for it. He was able to absorb the new and local
power into the central power and keep the old power in check through the king and prince system, thus attempting to restore royal authority more activity in the harmony of old and new power. He judged that they would be useful for
maintaining the royal authority and restoring the ruling system, thus trying to recognize their status. Since there were many members of the ruling class that received a king or prince title, however, he had to face limitations with
controlling them or ruling the local regions. Entering the reign of King Muryeong, the king and prince system was abolished, which indicates that the royal authority had been reinforced by the time and implies that the ruling
system was restored above the level of Hanseong period and further reached a new stage.
