일-가족 양립 현실과 출산 선택 : 서울시 성인남녀 대상 설문조사 결과를 중심으로 = Work-family imbalance and low fertility among Seoul citizen

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The social policies among OECD countries coping with the decline of fertility and advanced old-age society focus on support to the balance of work-family or work-life in societies. This paper is aimed at understanding the environment of childbirth-caring and proposing to improve a real situation of the marriage, the sense of family, the sustenance in work-family, based on the survey of Seoul citizen. The data used in this analysis is available in the interview of 2,500 persons conducted during 26th July to 21th Aug. in 2008, for female and male adults from 25 to 44 age in full.
These are following arguments. First, although a sense and value of family in the interviewees seem to be high on the whole, however, younger group , the level of agreement to the alternative family come to be stronger, instead the family-oriented attitude becomes weaker. Second, the value of family is more precious rather than that of marriage, Willingness of male to the marriage is more intensive than female, one-third of them think a marriage of a 'choice'. However, the 70 percent of single interviewees are answered to want to be married in future, one-forth of single women are appeared to have a reservation to marriage. These deferred and delayed marriages are mainly caused by the interest of self-improvement, rather than marriage. Third, the evaluation of the balance of work-family among Seoul citizen is not high point. But the single women and men, especially twenties are more balance of work-life than married couples.
Therefore, in this sense, these issues have some policy implication. Above all, for dealing with the decline of birthrate, it is very important to protect a work-family balance of male and female worker, especially needs for a institutional aid that is able to hold on to married women's jobs, when they give birth to their first child. At last, it will be realized that the high quality of childcare facilities or services have to be offered by an involvement of the central government and local authorities so citizens of Seoul can have children as they want to(mean 1.96).
