三千浦 쥐치鋪 加工業의 立地變動 = Locational Dynamics of Jerked Filefish Processing(JFP)in Samchunpo City, Korea

This study puts the purpose on the clarification of characteristics of spatial variations, location and locational dynamics of JFP in Samchunpo city, Korea, and on the examination of whether or not the results of preceding studies on the spatial variations, location and locational dynamics of Canned & Preserved Seafoods Industry(CPSI) in the other areas, are applicable to the explanation of JFP in Samchunpo city.
Based on the results of the preceding studies on the spatial variations, location and locational dynamics of urban manufacturing, Food Manufacturing and CPSI in the other areas, seven hypotheses on the JFP in the study area were established. The hypotheses were examined in terms of hard data and soft data. Hard data were for the analysis of spatial variations of industry, and soft data for the analysis of the location and locational dynamics of firms. Hard data were about the names of firms and their owners, addresses, the number of employees and the types of products which were recorded in Firms Directories. Soft data were the results of the interviews with the owners given. The interviews have been planned to be done with the owners of 58 JFP firms located in the study area, and were actually done with the owners of 50 firms among them.
The major findings in this study can be summarized as follows:
1. Spatial variations of JFP tend to orient to CBD in early stage and to outer city in later stage. The main factors leading the outward spatial variations to a specific direction, are policy for manufacturing location and traffic conditions.
2. The spatial variations result from the absolute decrease of JFP in inner city and the absolute increase in outer city.
3. Though the processes of spatial variations result from the sum of births, deaths, size changes and relocations of firms, the first three are more important than the other.
4. Though the economic, personal, political and environmental factors influence on the locational decision of firms, the main factors are owners' hometown, raw materials, land, labour and government policy.
5. The impacts of locational factors on locational dicision are different in the level of locational selections : in regional selection, owners' hometown and raw materials are important ; in site selection, land, raw materials, labour and government policy are important.
6. The relocations of firms are resulted mainly from policy of firms and raw materials.
7. The spatial extents of the outward relocations are limited within short distance due to the availability of land and accessivility to raw materials.
Examining seven hypotheses established in this study on the basis of above facts, all hypotheses were proved positive but four (hypotheses 3, 4, 6 and 7) were partially positive. This means that the characteristics of spatial variations, location and locational dynamics of JFP in the study area are not so different from the case of CPSI in the other areas with the exception of strong influences of labour and raw materials in the study area.
Therefore, the results of preceding studies on the spatial variations, location and locational dynamics of CPSI, are applicable to the explanation of spatial variation, location and locational dynamics of JFP in the study area.
