다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is, through pictures, to investigate Korean thought on formative arts and to look for the beauty and outstanding image of Korean church construction by studying various Korean traits which appear in falciform church, Korean-style church and mixed church of Korean-American style in the early period of the mission in Korea. The Korean church played an important role in modernizing the Korean society closed by the isolation policy since the early times of mission and it also accelerated the social change by guiding a lot of social movements and resulted in the oppression of the church and the strengthening of the isolation policy as a protest against the western world by giving a cultural shock to the conservatives. The early Korean Protestant church buildings appeared in the ㄱ- shared church of thatched houses and, thereafter, the diverse styles of buildings such as falciform church, Korean-style church, mixed church of Korean-Americanstyle appeared in 1880-90 in which the freedom of faith was permitted. Even though most of the style of the ㄱ - shaped church is replaced with the modern-style according to the extension of religious influence, luckily the ㄱ-shaped two churches ; kumsan church (1905), Toodong church(1929) are in existence in the provice of ChonBuk. The worship was given in the houses of saints or missionaries or in ready-made Korean-style houses before the church buildings were founded. And the room for men was separated from the on the for women. By the drastic increase of saints and the influence of the Confucian principle such as the distinction between men and women, the falciform church buildings appeared and this is our distinctive construction style never found in other countries. The appearance of the falciform church buildings settled the problems such as the accomodation of many saints and the distinction between men and women. Thereafter, diverse religious buildings appeared such as square or occidental buildings according to the change of the times.
