韓國近代以後의 社會變動과 敎育 = The Social Changes and Education since the Last Period of the Old Yi Dynasty

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 교육문화의 이해를 위해, 이를 위한 근거를 사회변동의 맥락에서 고찰하고자 노력하였다. 교육현상의 이해를 위해서 사회변동의 과정이 어떻게 교육의 문제에 반영되고, 또한 교육의 과제를 해결하는 단서를 제공하게 되는지에 논의의 촛점을 맞추었다. 본 연구의 목적은 이러한 고찰을 통하여 현대 한국교육의 구조적인 문제를 해결할 수 있는 대안 내지는 단서를 발견하고자 하는 것이다.
본 연구에서는 교육의 최종적 이고 최선적인 모습은 단순한 지적인 교수관계에 입각해서가 아니라 개인적인 삶의 방향을 결정하고 세계관과 신념을 획득하는 과정, 즉 교육문화와 교육가치관 형성의 관점에서 이해되어야 한다고 본다.
이러한 기본 입장에서, 그리고 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여, 본 연구는 크게 구한말의 사회변동과 교육, 일제하의 사회변동과 교육, 그리고 해방이후의 사회 변동과 교육으로 나누어 그 시대사적·교육사적 의미를 밝히고자 하였다.
본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다.
구한말의 사회변동은 내재적 요인보다는 외재적 통제에 의해 결정되므으로써 내재적인 자각과 비판의식의 성장은 비정상적인 수준에서 멈추고 말았다. 이러한 귀결은 교육에 대한 진정한 가치와 의의는 형성되지 못하고, 집단적 이기주의에 편승하는 경향을 초래하였다.
이같은 성향은 일제 치하에서도 계속되어 식민지교육의 본질적 성격을 형성하였다. 중앙집권적·관주도 교육, 획일주의적 교육, 지식중심의 주입식 교육, 계급주의·차별주의 교육 등이 식민지 교육의 특징이며, 해방이후의 한국사회의 성격형성에도 긴요하게 관계된다.
해방이후의 미국과의 특수한 관계는 곧 교육에 있어서 미국의 행동주의적 교육방법의 지대한 영향을 초래했으며, 또한 분단국가의 형성, 공업화, 그에 따른 도시화 등이 중요한 사회요인으로 교육에 영향을 미쳤다.
이러한 전반적인 고찰을 통해 드러나는 한국교육의 변치않는 특징은 높은 "향학열"이다. 이러한 향학열을 수용하는 과정에서 많은 문제들이 드러났다. 이러한 문제의 원인중에 큰 부분을 차지하는 것이 사적인 향학열이라는 점이다. 즉 '나'를 위한 것이지, '우리'를 위한 향학열이 아니라는 점이다.
본 연구를 통해서 우리가 알 수 있는 것은 사회상이 직·간접으로 교육에 영향을 미치고, 또한 교육의 결과는 사회에 그대로 반영된다는 점이다. 오늘날 한국교육의 문제와 사회의 부조리는 그 원인을 추론해보면, 적어도 구한말의 사회변동에까지 그 근원을 찾을 수 있다.
오늘날 교육개혁을 위한 노력도 사회변동의 흐름을 파악한 위에 교육개혁이 얼마나 심도있게 진행되느냐에 따라 보다 적극적이고 긍정적인 교육문화의 형성을 기대할 수 있게 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this research is for the purpose of understanding the foundation of the veins in social changes. To have the some discussion and in order to understand the present state of education, the social changes course how the education problems are reflected and offer the first step towards solving the education theme. The aim for this research is to solve today's structural problems of Korean education by discovering an alterative way or the first step towards this investigation.
In this research, the ultimate and the best of education is not simply based on the intellectual faculty in official but is come to a conclusion on the diciding the direction of individual life and acquiring the outlook on the world and belief. In the study we have to focus our attention to the point of view on education and the shape of the value of education.
To make clear of the meaning of the history of the times and of education, from this fundamental situation, and to achieve the aim of this research, it can be divided mainly into the social changes and educaion of the late of the old Yi dynasty, the colonial period of the Japanese imperialism and lastly after the independence from the Japanese imperialism.
The result of this research is as follows.
The social changes of the last period of the old Yi Dynasty was dicided by the out-ward control instead of the inward, so the inward self-cosciousness and criticisim must have been stopped at the standard of irregularity development. In this result the sincerity value and meaning of education could not be formative towards education but resulted into incurring as a group egoism in taking a ride in an indignation.
This kind of disposition of formative essential character of colony education continued under the rule of Japanese imperialism. The centuralized education, official leading education, uniform education, cramming system of edcation, class basis and class distinction education were the key roles of colony education, after the independence from the Japanese imperialism this formative character of the Korean society also became important relation.
After the independence the relationship between the united states and Korea became special because of the inviting influence of the behaviorism education, and the formation of a divided ration, industrialization, and urbanization were important to the social factors and how much it influence the education.
Through this overall study Korean education has not change because of the high inclination for learning. This desire for learning has a lot of problems in the awarding course. The private desire for learning took up the biggest part in this problem. The intellectual appetite is for me but not for us.
In this research we can know that how much the social conditions influence directly and indirectly towards education. And how the result of the education reflex towards the society. In today's Korean education the reasoning cause of the educational problems and social irrationality at least we can find from the origin of the last period of the old Yi dynasty of social changes.
The effort put into seizing the flow of social changes and how deeply the reformation of education has progress and how positively and affirmatively the formation of educational culture could expect in today's reformation of education.
