[논문] 다가온 미래와 미래의 인간 - 존 쿳지(J. M. Coetzee)의 『추락(Disgrace)』 = Coming Future and People to Come : John Coetzee's Disgrace

John Frow, in Cultural Studies and Cultural Value, considers of the intellectuals as an independent class different from the modem bourgeois and proletarian classes. The intellectual class has neither the labor force nor the financial capital but the cultural capital which is consisted of his(or her) habitus of knowledge. In the post(or late)-modern age, the intellectual class is divided into two categories. One is the intellectuals of modem state philosophy, the other is the intellectuals of trans (or de)-modern nomadology.<br/>
Gilles Deleuze, in What Is Philosophy?, states that "art and philosophy converge at ... the constitution of an earth and a people that are lacking as the correlate of creation. It is not populist writers but the most aristocratic who lay claim to this future." And he says "this people and earth will not be found in our (western) democracies." John Coetzee is not an European populist writer but an African aritocratic one, and the republic of South Africa is not the modem western, white, and male centered territory but the trans-modem earth in the post-Apartheid<br/>
In Disgrace, Coetzee depicts a life of one literary professor which is the process of deterritorialization and reterritorialization. David Lury deterritorializes from the territory of core and late modem university, and reterritorializes into the trans-modem nomadology of African primitive earth. His nomadology on Byron is made through becoming woman and becoming animal which are the crucial concepts of Deleuzian nomadology.<br/>
These two concepts deconstruct the modem dichotomies of man/woman and human/animal which is made by stae philosophy, and construct people to come in the trans-modem future who is becoming minorities of nomadologyy. In the age of post-Apartheid, South Africa is becoming an earth for the modem political and economic minorities, John Coetzee is folding possibilities for the cultural lives of people to come in the trans-modem future who are Lury and Lucy in Disgrace.
