After classifying the designs of roof tiles in Koryo Dynasty roughly into lotus flower style(蓮花文), Bosang-hwa style(寶相華文), the sun and ring style(日暉文) and other designs, again I diveded lotus flower style's roof tiles into single petal(單辨:I), double petals(複辨:Ⅱ) and folded petals(重辨:Ⅲ) on the side of style, which are again subdivided in accordance with the conditions of the lotus petals(slim petal:細辨 , wide petal: ?辨 or edge peral:?辨 ) and petal's and (prominent shape:?形 , depressed shape: ?形 or pointed shape:?形), and the design of from indside the lotus petal(leaf vein style:葉脈文, triangle line style:三角線文 , pistils and stamens of flower style: 꽃술文 or granule style:顆粒文).
Furthermore, the sun ring style's roof tile is classified in accordance with the circle surrounding the outer wall centering on the sun and ring style which is risen bulgy at the center of roof tile, into single circle(單圓圈:Ⅰ) , doubel circles(重圓圈:Ⅱ) and multicircles(多圓圈:Ⅲ), and over again it was subdivided in accordance with designs and Sanskrit writing performed except circles.
Accordingly, grasping the flow of form between each design based on the above, I utilized the actual chronology of the signed Buddhist alter fittings as far as possible in order to establish the used chronology, and the result is summarized as follows:
First, though lotus Ⅰa① , Ⅰb① and Ⅰ b ② of single peral's lotus style, and lotus Ⅱ b①style and Bosang-hwa style of double petals' lotus flower that were succeeded the same tyle in Unified Silla style, the former generation, were mainly used in the beginning of Korea Dynasty, of these, the lotus Ⅰb① style appears though it has been degenerating continuously and the remaining lotus Ⅰb① style, bosang-hwa I etc. style, have the tendency to be distinguished.
Second, the Ⅱb①style which is double petals' lotus flower was continuously used in the 11th century secceeding the former century and Lotus Ia①, IIa① and II② style were newly manufactured as roof tiles styles.
Especially, Manufacturing roof tiles was active in this period, and some changes of form were shown in case of Lotus IIb② style which is double petals style of wide petal system.
Third, begining with Lotus Ia ② style of single petal's lotus flower style of the slim petal system which was somewhat affected by Lotus Ib② style and Lotus IIa ① style, Lotus IIa ①' style of double lotus flower style and Lotus IIId, IIIe styles of double lotus flower styles entered on the stage in the 12th century. And, appearing the sun and ring roof tiles,new style, and began to be used in full-scale, so lotus technique I ca ②and Ic③ styles, etc. began to be appeared in the course of using together with lotus flower style and the sun and ring style, of which phenomenon was continued since then and the sun and ring style was used continuously.
Fourth, in the 13th century, Lotus Ic ③ style of the single petal's lotus flower style of edge petal system was used succeeding the former century and Lotus Ic ①style, and Lotus IIIa, IIIf and IIIg styles of folded petals' lotus flower styles appeared as new styles.
Also, Lotus Ic ① and Gi(其)II② styles which were used together with the sun and ring style, and the dege petal style appeared just like the former century.
Fifth, in the 14th century, too, the Lotus Ic ③ style which appeared in the former century was used continuously, Lotus I ca ③ and IIIca① styles of single petal and double petals' lotus flower style of the edge petal system appeared as the new styles. Also, according to the appearance of Ic ① and Ic ② of the sun and ring styles, the transformed same Gi(其)III style was accompanied, too.
As mentioned above, the foof tiles in Koryo Dynasty were simple and diversity in designs, and so on the other hand, they showed the tendency of discontinuation of succession as compared with those of the Unified Silla age, the former era.
Especially, the sun and ring style, used in full-scale from the 12th century, is considered to be produced styles from the Esoteric Budddhism culture which was scattered and prevailed in the society of Koryo Dynasty at that time.
Finally, the result of the thesis is only a tentative outline analyzed the concerned data until now, as state at the introduction, and this thesis must be corrected and completed continuously based on the increased data in future.
