1990년대 이후 충북지역 건축에 나타난 지역적 표현 및 보편적 표현 특성 = A Study on the Characteristics of Regional Expression and Universal Expression in Chungbuk Regional Architecture since the 1990s)

In the 1960s, Cheongju City began to the modern urbanization process with the population passing by 10 million than any other region of Chungbuk provinces. Early in the 1970s, it began to the urban concentration of population and development, the opening of the Gyeongbu Expressway and the improvement of rural community structure in rural areas, the housing improvement projects had become active.
From the 1990s, the Building ordinance of the city and municipal assembly was enacted, the high-rise apartment buildings were constructed a residential section at the outskirts of downtown. After ninety nineties, because of non self-regulating quantitative growth of Chungbuk provinces without the concern of local identity and the information on the currentness went on, so it is true that there are no buildings of represented contemporary architectures of the region.
In this background, this study investigates and analyzes the contemporary architectures of the Chungbuk region since 1990s, and has a purpose of examinations of the universal characteristics and the regional characteristics in the Chungbuk architectures.
For the architectural case study, the target buildings of analysis are selected at published works of the famous monthly magazine of Korean architecture and architectural awarded works of Korea Institute of Registered Architects and as well as they are in Chungbuk region. These works were visited for taking photos and collecting architectural informations.
The results of this study are as follows. First, since the 1960s, the universal characteristics of contemporary architecture were the continuation of functional Modernism Architectures and Post Modernism Architectures, High-Tech Architectures of Machine aesthetics and Deconstructivism as Neo Modernism. These are influenced many aspects in the development and advance of Korean contemporary architecture.
Second, since the 1990s, the universal characteristics of contemporary architecture began to appear the Minimalism Architectures as Neo Modernism, the New Media Architectures applied the information and communications technology, the Sustainable Architectures as Eco-friendly and green architecture.
Third, this pluralistic tendencies of Korean contemporary architecture are classified into five categories like as function oriented tendency, post-modern tendency, neo-modern tendency, technic expressive tendency and tendency of seeking Korean characteristics. The tendency of seeking Korean characteristics is based on the Korean traditional architecture this falls into four sections like as the outspoken restoration of Korean traditional architecture, the historical compromise, the abstract representation of tradition, the critical localism.
Lastly, the results of 33 examples Investigation Cases of the Chungbuk contemporary architectures appeared as follow. As the universal characteristics of the Chungbuk contemporary architecture, the function oriented tendency showed 12 greatest trends, and as the tendency of seeking Korean characteristics, there are four examples of the critical localism.
