루이 알튀세르의 미술가론 = Louis Althusser’s Art Criticism of the Artists

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 글은 프랑스 철학자 루이 알튀세르가 쓴 미술가에 대한 네 개의 글을 중심으로 그의 예술론을 미술사적 맥락에서 분석한 연구의 일부이다. 그의 예술에 대한 사고는 다양한 심급들이 동시에 작용하는 사회 구조의 복잡성과 정세의 우연성 속에서 형성되는 지배적 이데올로기와 주류 예술의 관계, 창조자와 수용자의 관계, 예술이 지배 이데올로기가 아닌 변혁을 위해 역할할 수 있는 부분을 고민하는 데 유효한 개념들을 제시한다. 알튀세르는 라틴아메리카의 초현실주의를 분석하면서 유럽의 초현실주의가 시공간의 이데올로기와 관련되어 특수화되었다는 점을 지적했다. 한편 그는 인간을 역사의 주체, 통일된 주체, 자유로운 주체로 보는 관점들에 반대했는데, 이러한 주장은 예술을 이해하는 전통적 사고방식이 당연시했던 휴머니즘적 사고를 타파하려는 크레모니니의 회화적 표현법에 대한 탐구로 이어졌다. 이론적 반휴머니즘론은 미술가의 절대적 위치와 창조성에 대한 신화를 타파하는 데 많은 영향을 주었다는 점에서 여전히 유의미한 이론이다. 루치오 판티의 작품을 분석하면서 알튀세르가 간파한 것은 소련의 정치적·사회적·국가적 이데올로기에 적합한 방식으로 생산된 사진들이 드러내도, 포착하지도 않는 이데올로기적 공백의 영역을 판티의 회화가 파헤쳐 드러나 보이게 한다는 점이었다. 이는 이미지의 생산과 수용의 과정에서 이데올로기가 시각적으로 작동되는 방식을 논의할 때 유효한 이론적 참조가 된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This is a part of a study analyzing the art theory of Louis Pierre Althusser (1918-1990) in the context of art history, based on his four essays on different artists. Althusser’s definition of art was to look, perceive and feel the ideology of the real world, and in these four essays this idea was extended into his method of research, which was to visualize the matter of ideology. Althusser criticized the political ideology of actual society, which was the subject of these artists’ works, and read these artists’ original style of expression as a criticism of the ideological attribute of artistic movements. Althusser pointed out that when the art movement surrealism is transformed into a new style in a different time and space, it becomes specialized in relation to the ideology of that time and space. Althusser opposed the perspectives, which view the human as the unified and independent subject, as well as the subject of history. This argument of his was led to the study of pictorial expression of Cremonini, who tried to overthrow the humanistic attitude, which was natural in traditional way of thinking of understanding art. In his interpretation, the ability of art to visualize ideology is embodied in Fanti’s artwork, and it reveals the ideological character of conventional expression in visual images, as well as a method of visualizing the naked ideology of the actual society, which stereotypical images try to hide, only to expose. This analysis is an effective theoretical model for discussing the process of producing and accepting images as part of ideology’s visual mechanisms.
