공공도서관 서평서비스 활성화 방안 연구

The study is accomplished in order to research a review service activation method in which library users can satisfy intellectual curiosity and increase their selective ability for books, and librarians provide qualitative book service for users. The study method is as follows: first, it examines various researches which are similar with review service as previous study; second, it inspects the review media and public library review service examples in domestic and foreign countries. The study makes questionnaire in the basis of the above study, and it surveys measured and supportive methods to evaluate the necessity of review service. As a result of the questionnaire survey, the present situation of public library review service in Korea can be concluded as follows: First, public library has provided review service in order to help users for selecting qualitative books, and thus review librarians should be needed for more qualitative service. Second, for selecting qualitative books, review service might be written by each department librarian such as children part, literature part, etc. rather than only one librarian. Third, the reasons why review service has not been activated or has not practiced vigorously are the absence of full-chargeable librarians, the lack of the library policies, and deficiency of public promotion. Fourth, there are needed public promotion and concern such as activation of librarian education in the area of review service and the presentation of the superior cases in the library in which review service has been activated. Fifth, the more librarians, education for librarians, and budget support should be needed for activating review service in library. Sixth, review service should be needed for ensuring professionalism of librarians. Seventh, review education should become systematic education in the course of formal education and continuous education should be needed. The study suggests the review service activation method of public library against these problems. First, special review web sites in which librarians participate should be established. The web site can take a role of review space, reading space, and information sharing space for librarians. Second, librarians should suggest data divided by theme and age, and they should issue on-line review newsletter. Third, it is reasonable that librarians who have a concern with book review make and participate in a review group in the center of the national library of Korea or regional representative library, and they write a review list. Fourth, a review written by competent librarians should be carried in various newspapers and periodicals. Fifth, at least one librarian among many competent librarians in the review area should partake in the occasion of selecting excellent academic books and readable book of this month. Sixth, for enhancing ability of librarians, the various opportunities of education such as establishment of education course in the department of literature and information in university or graduate school, the increase of study and training for librarians in the national library of Korea, and the itinerant review education in regional level should be given for many librarians. Lastly, promotion is very crucial for potential users and thus, various and dynamic method of promotion should be needed.
It might be taken long time to activate and stimulate the systematic and profound review service owing to the lack of librarians and of severe necessity. However, if a few librarians who have a concern with review service launch continuously, the service become desirable service for enhancing the specialty of librarian. S. R. Ranganathan said: “The Library is a Growing Organism.” The statement means the concept: respect the last and create the future. The review service with which both library and librarian grow is valuable work of creating the future of library through a medium, that is, book.
