1960년대 이후 도가 및 제자철학 원전 번역에 대한 연구 = A Study On Translating the Original Text Of the Taoism And the Various Philosophical Schools -Since 1960s

Study with the past philosophy is one of the essential way to start learning philosophy. And translation does such an important role for learning history of philosophy and studing philosophical legacy. Because we have very short history for studing philosophy in Korean, therefore most of philosophical legacies that we have to research and study are in foreign languages including Chinese characters. The question how the Oriental Philosophy(including the Taoism and the Various Philosophical Schools) have modernized this society or have had what an effect on the modern age is somewhat hasty. Actually, the Oriental Philosophy have been influenced by modernization rather than have influenced modernization last one century. It had to change itself not to cling to traditional form. Exactly the Oriental Philosophy had to put aside sth., change sth., assent sth. to be studied and be discussed like the other `fields`. Translating the original text was the first step for these. In 1960s, the original texts for the Taoism and the Various Philosophical Schools started to be translated in Korean. 1970s were the age of expansion in quantity. Translated books became 74 sorts in 1970s from 17 sorts in 1960s. That`s because of the enormous publication and distribution of publisher leading collections. This tendency lasts till 1984. In 1984, there were changes in quality on translation for the Taoism and the Various Philosophical Schools. There were internal & external changes in publication - from collections to separate volumes, from publisher leading system to translater leading system. These changes in quality became a foundation for 1990s growth in quality. In 1990s, many translated books for investigator, by investigator appeared. In 2000s, tendency of the translation of the Taoism and the Various Philosophical Schools is that many translated books reflect the present state and the study results of the academic world variously as well as promptly. We can read this tendency as gradual changing for the Taoism and the Various Philosophical Schools to modernization through translating the original text. We can read some important current in 40 years history in translating the original text of the Taoism and the Various Philosophical Schools as follows. 1st, Translation have been changed from the form of collections to separate volumes, from publisher leading system to translater leading system. 2nd, It has been changed from the abridged translation to complete translation. 3rd, Duplicate publications have been decreased or disappeared. It is connected with intellectual property. 4th, Translation form became various according to readers. Especially translations for researchers have been expanding. 5th, Translated books which are translated by professional researcher who are associated with the very original text have been expanding. 6th, Academical accumulations which have been achieved in the world as well as in Korea started to be reflected, and the features of the academical world started to be reflected. 7th, The quantity of translation per a person has been decreased. It`s because many people (including professional researchers) are participating in translation. And because the bad custom of duplicate publication have been disappeared. 8th, As an aspect of quality in translation, we can see the notable change from the form of written language to the form of spoken language. Though so many books cling to written language, ancient language, Chinese writing translating form, however, the trend is to support the modem language form from the ancient language or written language form.
